Saw a lot of vintage Toyota switches up on e-bay a couple weeks ago and bid the min bid not thinking I would win. Well I was the only one who bid so I won the lot. I didn't even really look at what I was bidding on very well.
Today after a week of the box sitting around I opened it up. Nothing really special. A headlight switch that had the same connections minus the little bulb that lights the knob in the later 40's. I'm sure it could be used as a replacement if you didn't care about having a lit switch.
Then I pulled this hazard switch out of the pile and it caught my eye.
It looked very similar to the standard lit headlight switch on later cruiser. So I grabbed one of the late switches to compare. It was a perfect match to the lit headlamp switch knob except it said Hazard in yellow letters.
So now I wanted to know what it was out of. All the description I had on the e-bay page was it was out of a Toyota truck. But which year and model? There are no standard Toyota part numbers on the side. Just sae-qc71 and then 89-2.
I got to thinking it would be a cool mod to ad to a cruiser. SO I started looking at the wiring and the connectors. The connectors were the same as a standard later hazard switch but that is where the similarities ended as the pin outs were in a different order and where this hazard switch has 7 pin used in the connector the cruiser hazard has 9.
So who out there has an idea what this came out of so I can start looking at wiring diagrams? It's easily to see there are a couple non soldered terminals on the lit hazard switch which would give it 9 spots. If they all performed the same function as the standard hazard switch I'd be willing to give it a shot. Lord knows I have a few hazard switches to play around with.
