i know you have probably been asked a thousand times but i couldn't find any info in the search.

i love the work you done but i want to get rid of those ugly door panels. i saw a guy who did something similar to your work and maybe you have done this before?

I would love to get all the doors done and the back panels, so it would all match.

can you do something like that?

here is the link to his picture:

it would be a sweet set-up. :hhmm:

Haven't done any door panels, but you're right, this is not the first time I've been asked about them.

The issue with them is the wiper at the top of the US style door panel that meets the glass and finishes off that junction.
On the non US spec trucks the panels do not go all the way up to the top (think I talked about this in the thread you linked) and there is an extra trim part that fills the gap by the window.
That part is unfortunately not available, but supposedly there is a way to get the exterior part without the stainless trim and use that on the inside since they are similar.
I have some parts here. but haven't had the chance to look into it more.
If I could find a way to trim off the glass in a satisfactory way then I would be willing to make some door panels.

I'll keep looking into it. :p

Sounds great Kevin, i know things are easier if you have potential for future business. If you make it work i would love to be on that list. Hopefully others will see this posts and chime in.

one suggestion: if you do make it work, please replace the accessories (door handles, window handle, etc) with something more modern. replacing the panel and putting back the old hardware just doesn't look right. IMHO

If we are talking some sort of "bling" type of door panel i'd agree. BUT if we are talking something utility based (like your current replacement items), i think anything but the original handles would look odd. My .02 of course. Curious what others think.

I think it would be getting overcomplicated if you start changing handles, winders etc.

kevin i have a couple of old inside weatherstrips in the shed,i bet you have aftermarket ones very similar,of course there shorter then what you'll need(vent windows) but they will give you something to go off. There off the basic model without the door cover of course.
just let me know if you want them,i'll drop them in the mail

Thanks for the offer chaser, should be good though.
I had a full set of economy (non US) interior trims and I went through all the details and bits for reference.
I just haven't really had that much of an issue with the factory doors panels in my cruiser to push me to make new ones, kind of like the retro cloth. :p
Do you guys have trashed panels that you want to replace, or are you just looking for something different?
They sure would be durable out of the marine plastic stuff though, wonder if it would help with sound at all, could foam pad the backs and use an edge trim to cushion and seal the edges......:hhmm:
I would want some killer hardware though, non of the plastic clip stuff anymore, nice stainless stuff. And other than possibly the door pulls, the interior hardware should stay the same, especially when you start to consider the different parts between the 60s and 62s, power windows ect.
A nice heavy strap style pull might be nice.

This is exactly what I'm looking for. I'm getting ready to paint, and really don't want to put my old broken down door panels back on.. My door panels are trashed. previous owners have installed tweeters, and two different size speakers, none of which are functional anymore, and as I removed them this weekend they are just not worht putting back on. I was thinking about making my own, but seeing the quality of your work, makes me think I'd rather have you do it.

I would purchase some wagongear door panels in a second. Just make some in brown!

X2---can you get the HDPE in brown? I've looked for something like that to make my own door panels but haven't had much luck(didn't look that hard really) I really want some of your side panels but I sure would like them to be brown. With all the other browns and tans in the cruiser the black just doesn't look quite look right to me.

You guys can have any color you want as long as it's black.
I've tracked down a few browns but none of them really look that good with the Toyota browns, just adds another shade to deal with and everyone just ends up going with the black in the end.
Black goes with everything.

Take a look at Dereks build thread (linked two posts up), check out page 4 and tell me those panels don't look good against the brown? :D

Door panels are a possibility, would like to sort them out soon, but I am going to make them simple and utilitarian, one style, no arm rests, no cup holders.
And only in black.

Haha, it doesn't look bad at all--I'd still prefer brown but it's not a deal breaker. I'd actually planned on installing some but I got the first kid due in a few weeks so I gots to see how that works out first.

You can count me in on a set of panels all around !! I REALLY want the doors !!

A solid handle on the door would be great. You could go simple and also funtional. It's nice to have a handle for the lady of the house to get in and out of !!

But, after my desmog, the interior is next on my list. And a set of rear panels are number 1 right now.

Great work K-Man !!

Count me in on a set of grey if you ever do produce them!

The exterior wiper seal is available without the chrome trim. The P/Ns were recently posted in 60 Tech. There were also P/Ns for interior wiper seals that I think are usable without the factory US panel being needed. I could be wrong though, so don't take that for gospel. I need new wiper seals all around anyway so regardless, I'll find out soon enough. If not, I'm sure there's something that can be gotten maybe from McMaster that'll take up the gap left by removing the door panel.

I hope so anyway, as I want to replace all mine (cargo panels included) with 3/8" marine grade plywood.

Well kevin, this is the 3rd time in completely different threads but count me in as well :)
