Well, after spending all that time and money fixing up my engine bay, making it look new (https://forum.ih8mud.com/60-series-wagons/290221-radiator-leak-build.html), I heard some noises that made me wish I would have gone through and refreshed the bottom half of the engine as well (Engine was creeping up on 300k). Of course this started to happen a week before I deployed (Im a navy pilot on the USS Enterprise). Luckily the internet works on this ship (although at dial up speed) and I was able to research the engine options that ive been drooling over for awhile now. Naturally I wanted a diesel, but I wanted something economical and I didn’t want to turn my truck into a monster truck with a SOA (Cummins 4bt Requirement) or order parts out of country (any Toyota diesel).

After talking to proffitts cruisers and looking into the detailed work they’ve done, I decided to go with them to put a Cummins B3.3 into the 60. Reasons I went with this engine:
A. Economical- brand new engine is a little over 5k.
B. Dead Simple- Install requires minimal custom fabrication, the engine runs off 3 wires, and Is fully mechanical- No computers involved. Engine is easy to get parts for and has won multiple awards for reliability as well.
C. Fuel Economy- We will see how this one will turn out, but similarly weighted non aerodynamic vehicles have reported 25 mpg (jeep yj reported 33mpg!). I should be able to maximize this with my 5 speed and 3.7 gearing.
D. Sustainability- this engine will run full biodiesel with minimal modifications.
Potential detractor:
A. Power- 85 hp. Not too concerned about this, reported performance is on par with the 2f which im fine with. If I can get similar performance with double the economy, im on board. Torque on the 3.3 is more than the 2F (215 vs 210) which matters more in a diesel drivetrain anyways.

So I will be updating this thread as much as I can as I receive pictures halfway across the world from Proffitts. The project should be starting here soon and will be finished before I get home. So a nice welcome home present for me! Its just too bad my wife will get to drive the diesel before I do!

Nice engine choice. I'm sure there are some screws that can be turned and turbo mods that can be made to get more power down the road if wanted. Be safe out there.

Nice, I will be looking forward to this build.

My 2F is still loving that air filter :D

Hope everything is going well for ya!

What are you planning on doing with your nice old engine?
Do you think you could get it flown out the Joint base MDL in Jersey?

They are sending all the shiny parts and accessories back minus the actual block, so if anybody wants to bling up their engine bay, they will be for sale in a couple months when i get home!

Sounds good...Post lots of pictures when you can. You will love the diesel, I do!

Be safe.

Done. Pictures/writeup/review to come.

I absolutely love it.

post up some more pics of the engine from different angles? What transmission you running?

Where is this specific engine found...?

Oh man! Been waiting on this one. Looks great and cannot wait to see the write-up. Take as much time as you need, just include lots and lots of pics and maybe a video or two!

85 HP? Did you add boost?

Nope. Less HP, More Torque= Huge Difference compared to the 2F. It pulls where it did not before, and goes highway speeds with ease.

I am a very very happy camper, it runs better than i ever thought it would.

It is dead simple as well which fits right in with the truck... 1 wire to run the whole thing.

Like i said, more of a write up to come... its only my second day driving it!
