My buddy bought a set of fiber glass ones from SOR, how in the hell do you bolt a hinge on those? I have tried and tried and tried again, I cant figure it out????

with no seal installed and resting in the jamb the hinge will not close and hit the door flush....WTF?

Progress today

We got one tacked up. Looks just like I was thinking at this stage. It is lots of work. Thanks a million to otterav!

1. Doors in waiting. One was perfect. We cut it in half with a grinder.
2. Mandrel bent 3" tubing from my muffler buddy. Thanks Sean.
3. Tubing split. The jury's still out on if it would've been easier to use a whole tube. It wouldn't have come out as clean, but it might have taken less hours.

More pics

1. otterav grinding and shaping...
2. ...and test fitting.
3. Tacked up. It is almost exactly as I imagined. Notice the holes for the factory mirrors. The dent from the die originally bothered me, but I'm getting used to it. It's kind of like a handle.

Glass Half Doors

Im not sure if these are the same as SOR, yet these are from Oz east fibreglass Autralia. Regarding attaching the hinges ect, one the inside of the mounting points, these have simply been built up with a layer of metal / glassed in and filler / then drilled and bolted through. Same for the latch. I have placed a thick generic rubber seal around the lip of the a / pilla and lower sill as the doors were a crappy fit. They do flex quite a bit, yet when a the door trim is in place, everyting is A.O.K. I've had nil problems with any mounting points cracking ect, and these do not rattle one ounce! I have yet to fix any type of door stops though...

The bottoms were rusted out so we just cut them off. This was the first set we attempted. We have done a little better on the 2nd set so far. We were able to use the top part of the door metal to complete each door. It works out pretty nice.

Nice. Those are very close to my plan. You left two inches in front and an inch more in back than we did, but then we added back 1.5" with the tubing. Your door panel is also very close to what I plan. I'm going to put the handle/latch in the place where the window roller hole is to eliminate the extra hole.

Does that angle match the fender? Does the lock work?

Paint that rusty mirror!

Darb...the rusty mirror. It camoflages the runs in the paint.

The angle doesn't match the fender. It was the most cut out of the door with the ability to still use the 'rusty mirror'. We just dropped the inside handle down from it's original position. The only issue I see with moving it where the window reg was is the length & angle of the pull bar inside the door. I still haven't figured out what to do with the hole where the window reg was. Good luck.

They look like Aqualu doors. If I remember right RMC is an Aqualu distributor. I bought my Aqualu tailgate through them.

You guys are puttin' the bug in me... I'm gonna have to do my half doors... maybe next week. I'm using the exhaust tube method.

I think the biggest issue with the 1/2 doors available is the price; $473 + shipping. I know a set of aftermarket doors would have a better fit & finish, but my truck could use $500 in a handful of other places first. Plus I had a couple sets of full doors sitting around and a buddy who was in for building them with me.

It would be a good spot for an interior light. Even a stick-on battery powered three led light from home depot. If you were way motivated you could make it come on when the door is opened.

Morgan Hill, eh? We should get together for a beer sometime. Like Saturday when I'm replacing my tranny. ;) I live over by Jackson School off Hill and E. Dunne. I've got lots of parts. Let me know if you need anything.

Half Doors and Metal Tech cage

Well, everytime I look at the site it says I need to post something and quit lurking. So, Here's a couple of shots of some half doors I just completed and my new metal tech cage I just finished. Had to move the full size rear seats quite a bit in board to clear the cage and build some swing down feet, but I think they came out quite well. Had to do a lot of work on the top of the doors as I'm sure anyone who's cut these down knows it has multple hights and ridges. I cut most out and sliced and hamered the rest flat and welded them flat. I'm not sure what those doors are out of. They are different than the 40 doors I have. Maybe an old 25 or 45 pickup? They wer about an inch shorter at the top than mine and had a large open slot inside that exosed the glass, but never had a panel covering them. The regulator panel was where mine were, but a different shap and size. I bent up a panel for both and riveted them on. Had everything painted in bed liner to match the body and unfortunately, the color difference is how much the body faded in one year. The latches were different also and the handle came out the top of the mechanism instead of the bottom. I flipped where the latch goes, did away with the outside handle and my dad made a little pivot pin on the lathe that works slick. Anyway, here are some pictures.

Removed glass and rails, Shaved outside handles, filled holes inside, covered top with 18 G steel, applied Dynamat like material to out side panel to reduce vibration harmonics, and aligned roll cage support member (left side) with top of door. Kept the doors level to make a nice arm rest relative to seat height.
