Check out my wood

These are recycled barn wood. Prolly at least 100 years old. Main panel is marine ply wood. Stainless paddle handles came from SOR. Hinges are fab.

Don't know you can find these anywhere. They are the only pair I know of.

Eric and I got together one day last week and got working on this year's half door. :meh: I took last year's home with me for some finishing.

The door panel came out like sheot. The lock and door handles came out great though.

The door itself is more solid than the original door since there's no window rattling around inside.

I lengthened the actuator rods with square brass tubing. The door handle is mounted, where the window handle was mounted originally, with nutserts from the top part of the door.

The lock works. Kinda dumb maybe, since there's no window.

In the top picture you can see three holes I drilled to mount the door panel. In the bottom picture they have the original plastic inserts in them.

All the hardware I used, besides the brass, is Toyota OEM.

This thread has me itching to get a set of doors to play with... :hhmm:

I will say that for the number of hours I have in this project, I wish I started with a perfect door. The passenger side that was rolled has some dents in it that I won't be able to get out by myself. I'll probably paint with a good matched rattle can.

Fasteddy,
What wall tubing did you guyz use for the doors, and does the door feel excessively HEAVY?
I was considering an option like this, but worried that a heavy gauge steel on the top would make the door a bear to open if off camber and or flopped.
Anyone have any more pics on this to add?
These are great!
Anyone completely chop out and re skin the interior of the door?

Thanks,

Chicago

BTW, I know this is an OLD thread, but...

Eddie those look Great, are you going to be running them at the 45 Run ? Keep the pictures coming and looking forward to seeing you Labor Day

Man, that's some awesome fab work, they look great . How long did it take to make those doors like that? I have an extra set of doors I was planning on making half doors out of, maybe I'll try doing it like that.
Awesome work!

Here is my first attempt.
I did em for a mudder that is also in my club.
Im doing another set, but he wants to cut out the interior panel and skin it with steel.
My issue is, how to affix the steel skin at the top, have it look nice for him and his wife (most important) and save my sanity.

He also had some NASTY rust on the bottom that I replaced.
It WAS NOT FUN, but it came out pretty well IMO. I was happy with it.
Had to get a lil creative with the break.

Cheers mate. Been working on them on and off for months so not sure how many hours are in them. To many. And still heaps more to go i imagine.

uted: frikken brilliant!

Those are awesome! Do the windows just roll down that far, or do they simply stay up?

Dan

Thanx. Windows will be able to be open or closed, still working out some sort of catch to keep them up. Vent windows work same as they did before.
