More good news!

ACC Toyota called and the donor 2F has strong compression. It does have some minor oil leaks and we are going to replace the side cover, oil pan, and rear main seals during the build. Those will be relatively easy. The harder part will be replacing the front cover and front main, but we'll get her done.

cant this all be done ahead of time???? why waste time then and do it? seal kit is like $120 and has everything in it? or is the motor still in somthing else?

The motor has been pulled and is at ACC Toyota awaiting pick up. For me it all comes down to time, I'm swamped trying to run two small businesses and manage this event. :frown: But, we almost have enough $ donated at this time for the seal kit.

I would love to have the motor cleaned up and the seals replaced before the event if I could get a volunteer!

I need many more volunteers. I have a few guys helping with things such as a website (Boot) and tech (Trollhole) and then a few other guys lending a bit of time (Turkeypen, and others) but I need more help.

Thanks!

I assume I can send them to the address you posted already

Just got off the phone with Steve Sweat of the Patriot Guard Riders. They were involved with Josh's funeral and will be giving us an escort from I85/US441 to either the Reeves' home or the warehouse where we will be wrenching - still to be decided.

I may have a filler neck for different years, and I have a set of seats out of a 70/72, I have not seen them in a while and cannot attest to their condition, I am sure they need to be recovered. Let me know if you are interested in them in any condition. I think I have a set of running boards too, they may need a little work, which I am willing to perform. Email me what else you need, buz is slow so cash is tight, but used parts I already have are easier for me.

We have a set of running boards on the way from apeterson but I think we could use the front jump seats.

Can you PM me your email address and I'll send you the list of parts we need, or it is in the second post of this thread.

Thanks!

. . . I have a set of seats out of a 70/72, I have not seen them in a while and cannot attest to their condition, I am sure they need to be recovered. . . .

Thanks!!!

We dont want to waste your time or your parts: we are looking for front seats from a FJ40 manufactured between 9/71 and 9/ 72 as the seats for a 72 are very unique. We are not trying to do a year specific interior, we just want to make sure that they will fit properly. If they are '72s, We will be glad to take them and maybe we can do some Mud shipping to get them to me so I can attempt to do the restore before the event.

With some minor mods bucket seats will also fit (like on my '71 fj40). I used the buckets from a 1977 and had to find the legs for the passenger side only. This way I was able to keep that nice toolbox located under the driver's seat.

Just my dos centovos.

Leave it to a Cuban to keep a 38 year old car running with "new parts" from the Carter years . . . .:grinpimp:

I have not given up on finding the real McCoy. Take a look at the SOR website to see what I mean for an 11/71 manufactured 1972. Specter Off-Road Land Cruiser Parts - Page 118 Seats Factory

If anyone has that seat, let me know. My final card is to call Mr. Specter personally, or have some Cuban call his wife . . . if I recall, a certain Cuban got awfully chummy with Mrs. Specter in Greenville during the FJC reveal, and I think we have pictures . . . :o

Any thoughts on how to approach the Specter group on this one?

UPDATE ON FRONT SEATS:

STILL LOOKING

See picture below of needed seat:

I resent this allegation that Kay...er, Mrs. Specter and I have had any inappropriate relations.

Tiger, I mean Alex, no allegation made by me . . . inferences could be drawn however.:) Seriously though, we could use some SOR help on the interior including seats, foams, covers, a dash cover, and new visors. Do you want to join the interior crew with me? Looks like buckets of warm soapy water will be involved . . . tempting, eh?

I am attaching pictures JamesR took of the passenger seat presently in the truck. It looks to me like the aftermarket seats were attached to the original OEM base. Am I right?

As you can see, these seats really, really need to be replaced . . . .

We have a front seat!

:bounce:ClemsonCruiser (a.k.a J.P) is donating a front seat from the late '60s. (Shag-a-delic!)

Looking at the pictures from SOR, it looks like a late '60s bench seat will fit a '72 eventhough the style is a little different (its looks like the legs and holes line up from the diagrams). IF you know something I don't, please let me know ASAP before I spend lots of time and dough.

As this donor seat has been kept on life-support through infusions of duct tape, we will be needing to reupholster it. The vinyl and new foam are going to run around $350 from SOR, so we are going to need some $ donations. I will be tearing into the seat as soon as I get it from SC soon and the jump seats from eastern NC this weekend. The plan is to blast them both to clean metal, prime, and paint. Hopefully, at MLK we will be able to take out the old and drop in the new, and spend most of our effort cleaning the interior . . . Any volunteers?

BUT, I NEED SOME HELP! (understatement of the year . . . )
I will front the $350, but Steve has a PayPal donation link for this project. Upstate Cruisers Blog Archive Build a Cruiser for a Fallen Soldier Any help appreciated!
