I'm going to try and get in contact with some of y'all today about helping like y'all have offered.

I still could use a few volunteers. Specifically one for publicity and one for coordination of parts donation and parts restoration.

Rear Jump Seats/ Front Seats

Jumps . . .

I retrieved the rear jump seats yesterday and tore them down today. They will require the following:

1. Welding in new tube at the bottom corners of one (two corners rusted through).

2. New foam (foam good, but soaked so mildew will happen).

3. New Upholstery (Brittle, torn, holes).

4. Sand Blasting rust (rust on all surfaces under foam)

5. Paint (this will be the fun part).

6. Soaking the hinges in liquid wrench as the seats wont unfold.

Looks like a crash course in welding is in my future. Anyone ever welded new tubes into seats?

Arggg!

****************

Front seats . . .

JP has offered an earlier bench seat which may well fit, but it will require new foams and upholstery.

I have a line on an original seat from a '72 in SC that looks to be in excellent shape and we may only need to redo driver's side. Only problem is that the owner wants a complete set of late model 40 front seats with hardware. Quite frankly, the only set I have is in my restored '82 and while I really want to help James, this isn't going to happen.

*****************
Having now driven 400 miles, I am a little frustrated. PM me or call and I will tell you what I really think at this point. :bang:

*****************

Bottom line folks, this is a charity thing, I don't have anything to trade, especially something better than you have, and I'd rather do nothing than put something in JamesR's truck that is going to hurt a 4 year old.

I am not an ingrate, just a little bewildered . . . .

These are the pics. Sorry for the delay but my new computer has issues resizing them.

Photos in Trollhole's 'MLK10' album

Also I'm thinking that tranny he has is an SM465 or SM420. Will need to get a confiramtion on that though.

Edit: It's an h42 so we are good.

Thanks for the pics Troll.

The tranny you are talking about being a SM420 or SM465, are you talking about the one out of the vehicle in the garage? If we install that we will have to worry about adaptors and such. The 2F coming from impossible and ACC supposedly has a good 4 spd tranny original to the 1985 FJ60. Should we for the time being take the 2F and 4 speed tranny, switch out the bell housing for a 40 bell housing, find a tcase and use that?

FJ60 tranny won't work. Unless we want to put a split case and there is a good bit of fab for that. The SM tranny shouldn't be a problem. Will just need to make sure we have the proper throwout bearing, pilot bearing and such. The tranny hump will have to be modified but that shouldn't be an issue.

Mybad disregard. It's an H42. So we are good on the tranny.

OK - thanks. So the H42 that is on the current 2F or the 1F is what we are going with?

Won't we still need to switch out the bell housing for a 40 bell housing? And what kind of tcase do we need?

I spoke with David from 4Wheel Owners Magazine and while I am there I will be taking lots of pictures and getting an article together for the Magazine about this build, My flight is locked in and I will post details, I will be the guy standing in front of the Airport looking lost LOL

Don't worry - you won't step on anyone's toes...well, maybe the Dirty Cuban but we will explain more about him later...

Trollhole said he had all the guts for the rear hatch.

Weather will probably be nippy - lows could reach freezing and highs anywhere from freezing to more than likely upper 40's, maybe 50. Southern weather can swing wildly. With the indoor work space we should be sheltered a bit from the cold. For accomodations we have floor space and couches to crash on and there is also a hotel around the corner from the Reeves residence. I'll be crashing on a floor or couch unless the wife comes down and then we will get a hotel room.

Thanks again!

Contacted TLC 4x4 in California to see if they had any front/rear seats from a '72 that they could donate. Will update with any info I receive.

I am running low on options . . .

David, I believe it was AntFJ (but I will have to check to be sure) offered to work on any parts that we needed refurbished. Let me try to get in contact with him and see about what he could do with these seats.
