This is awesome!

Thanks!

I'm not 75 but sometimes I feel like I'm the only 20 something mechanic that knows how to use any of those things. I can tune the carb as well if need be.

That's what you get for rolling around on your back all day! We have a THC carb coming but you are more than welcome to tune it!

You guys need a documenter/photographer and someone to make a book to keep with the 40 for the boy, when he's older he will appreciate seeing the effort that you guys are putting in and maybe while he grows up others will find comfort in your work.

You need a paypal site up and PM me when you have it!

Best of luck with this project.

Good point -we do. I'll be snapping a ton of pics during the build but I'm far from a pro...

You guys should take a ton of pics and do a photo/coffeetable type book on Blurb.com. You can sell them online and raise more $$$ for the kid's college fund or family expenses. Do a bio on the family and other info then show the cruiser build. That would be cool. They are very easy to make on that site and doesn't cost you anything. I'd buy one!

I have a ton of spare parts in a pile in my garage. Let me know what you guys need and I'll see if I have it. I'll keep checking the first post for the expanded parts list

Hmmm - since you are so handy at importing why don't you bring me, I mean the build, a Troopy? :hhmm:

Those carbs don't need no tunein.....

True

As today comes to a close lets remember those who have given their lives in service to our country. I admire and respect every one of them and their families and I support all those who have served.

OK cruiserheads, I need help with the shirt. I'm looking for a good drawing of a FJ40 or a simple pic of just a FJ40 on a simple background to turn it into a line drawing. I'd prefer a semi stock truck, similar to how we think James truck will turn out. Any color is fine. PM me for an address, or if you have it on the interweb, send me a link.

Thanks!

Thanks Carp! I can't wait to see the design. Do you still need an image of a 40? I can see what I can dig up.

I just spoke with James. He is very excited about the build and I am coordinating a trip with him ASAP to check out the 40 and make a list of parts we need for the build. I'm also talking to a few local people who are helping out with arrangements. I'll make some more specific updates about the local things in the works a bit later. W still need many volunteers to do anything from calling potential sponsors to arranging for food to wrenching. I'll take all the help I can get - please let me know if you can help in anyway!!!

If anyone wants to help me with this, especially if you know 40s, please PM me to make arrangements. I would like to get down to check out the 40 either late November or very early December so we can keep the ball rolling.

The Reeves family was together this weekend and right now Josh's brother Jared has the 40 and is working on it a bit. Jared and Josh used to go wheeling together before Josh was deployed. Man, all the guys in this family seem to have a name that begins with 'J.' Speaking with James really reinforces what we are doing, and that what we are doing is a very good thing.

Ooooo, here is some AWESOME news!!!

A feller who I had never spoken before contacted me and James and has donated a 2F!!!! 'Impossible' here on MUD has a 2F that is coming out of his 60 for a conversion and we are going to be able to put it in Josh and Jackson's 40... I'm psyched!!! Thank you so much!:clap::clap::clap:

Upstate Cruisers is in the middle of getting a new webmaster on board so for the time being I will use my PayPal account to accept donations for this build.

The email is "steve.springs@paypal.com" 100% OF EACH DONATION WILL TO DIRECTLY TO THE BUILD. Please make a note that the money sent is for the 40 build - but - I rarely make any transactions using my PayPal site so I will assume that anything coming in is for the 40 build.

Thanks to everyone!

Hello All,
I just spoke with Steve. I am grateful for all of the kind words and support with this project. I have taken some photos and placed them on photobucket, here's the link
FJ40asis pictures by JamesR-KF4AQO - Photobucket
Let me know what additional photos are needed and I'll take them.
It's so easy to say "Thank you". Howeven, those two words can't express the gratitude I have for Steve for starting this project, and everyone else who has jumped on board. Please let me know what I can do to help.

Little update - Spence, aka 'impossible' has donated anything from his 2F diesel swap that won't be needed in his 60. So, it looks like we have a complete long block!!! Weeeee!!!!

Michael and Brian at ACC Toyota are going to take a peak at the 2F and see what type of shape it is in.

Now we need some of those pledges and additional donations to come through! You can send donations through PayPal to Steve.Springs@gmail.com. 100% OF EVERY PENNY DONATED WILL GO DIRECTLY TO THE BUILD!

My company, Two Springs Consulting, has teamed with Trollhole Cruisers, to supply a brand spanking new carb and dizzy. A big thanks to Marshall of Trollhole Cruisers!!!!

I have some other things up my sleeve that I will hopefully be able to post more about after Nov 29th which is when I will be traveling down to Watkinsville to check out the 40 and get a list of parts that will be needed for the build.

Thanks to everyone!

Oh, and my first, main post was updated too.

Pledge $ Sent . . .

and JamesR pictures reviewed. My comments are limited to cosmetics:

1. Looks like the body is in pretty good shape, except for whatever is behind the diamond plate.

2. Its missing the running boards.

3. Missing headliner, one visor and hardware, the other is shot, needs a new dash.

4. Since there is mildew on the remaining visor, odds are the seats are riddled with it. Should we be looking for a set of 72s to go back in?

5. Looks like a thorough pressure washing is in order as there appears to be a layer of topsoil inside and out.

6. Wire busing and POR15 looks to be in order for the underside and along the interior between the roofline and roof.

7. Those wheels and tires really do not enhance the truck . . . perhaps take it back to stock.

8. I don't recall pics of the jump seat area.

9. Filler Neck cover missing (real safety issue there . . .)

I have brand new alum. Running boards that came with my alum tub I would donate. I did not use them only because I put slides on. Let me know.

I know this has probably already been mentioned but, the more publicity to this event the more possible donations that can be obtained. When the weekend finally arrives I would notify the local news agencies and hope one of them picks it up. There are lots of people willing to donate if they knew who, how, where and why. This is a great opportunity to do so. I didn't see a list of needed items but I have a few parts laying around that may help.

Good Luck, God Bless,

Kevin

Thanks Kevin!

I'm working with the local Athens/Clarke Co paper (forget the name offhand) along with the local Sheriff who knows most everyone to get non-Cruiser help drummed up.

I don't have a comprehensive list of parts needed yet. I'm going down to see the 40 on Nov 29th and have enlisted some very capable help so after then we should have a good list of what we need.

Anyone want to volunteer to coordinate publicity?

Steve, could you get a manufacture date for JamesR's truck as the 71 vs. 72 is an issue on certain interior items.

The reason it looks like there is a console missing in the picks is that the truck originally had a split bench seat (one bench seat, two backs). I may have a line on a replacement if JamesR wants to go that way, but we need month/year of manufacture which should be on the VIN plate somewhere.
