Finished a rebuild of the knuckles and front calipers, replaced rotors and wheel bearings, etc. this past weekend and all seems much better!
Only thing now is my ABS light is stuck on...I'll have to get to the bottom of that over the next few weeks.

Finally ready for some scouting along Clavey River!

ABS light on usually means ABS is turned off. Mine did the same after front knuckle rebuild. Pull the sensors out of each hub (one bolt) and clean off the connector real good and wipe down the sensor real well. Hopefully fixes it!

I'm on it! Thanks!

Recently I picked 8 heavy duty gutter mounts from member/vender @reevesci for well under $200 shipped. IIRC I paid like $160. These mounts are stout and place the rack nice and low. Making those gutter mounts seems tedious and very time consuming.

I'm def going to try and fab my own first. Based on how well that does/doesn't work I'll be looking at some after market. Have heard great things about @reevesci work.

Thanks guys, just let me know or even if you have a tech question on the fab portion just PM me.

Always here to help when I can.

Thanks man, that's great to hear.

LIFT INSTALL

Summer before last I got some hand me down OME L's when @VETTE60 was parting out his old 80. Then finally this past spring I pulled the trigger on some heavy springs. I wasn't sure about the heavies in the rear...in fact I'm still not. I'd like to have a "level" rig so I may swap in some mediums in the back.

I took notes from @sleeoffroad 's write up and the lift was installed over a couple weekends.

The next weekend I tackled the rear, this time with a bit more help.

I found afterwards that I should have measured wheel well height from mid hub. While these are from the ground, one can at least gleen relative height changes.

Stock height at the rear:

I found that solid core 035 makes excellent tie wire

My youngest is a little brute, he saw this spring and ran right over and picked it up w/o hesitation or too much (any?) strain.

After we broke for dinner my oldest helped me wrap up

Awesome when the littlest ones want to help! Proud Dad moment for sure - even when their help actually extends the time schedule! :)

Truth!

Final measurements for the rear. Again these are from earth (not center hub) to the top of the wheel well:

Stock, no bumper no spare

Heavies no bumper no spare

Heavies + 4x4 labs with spare mounted

These numbers are from just after install.
While at 2" and change I'm not crazy about the stink bug effect.
Not sure if I'll go Mediums in the rear or a spacer in the front.
Spacer is cheaper, but I'm not trying to introduce any driveline issues.

LABS BUMPER

So last spring I started a group buy with 4X4 LABS so I could score the discount on a dual swing out kit. Then it sat on the assembly table untouched for just about the entire summer until I finally pulled the trigger on a Millermatic 211. I don't have a ton of pictures but the welding went pretty well. It took about ~2 months of 20-minute sessions to complete the kit. All in all, I'm stoked on it. Now to get some proper jerry cans.

I was super nervous about chopping the stock bumper aka rear frame cross member, but once cut I gained some confidence.

Since I can only work for 20min at a time, my welding gear can look like this:
IMG_2181.jpg

I laid down a few decent welds from time to time. I had buddy tidy up these as I wanted to be sure these were structurally sound.

After I installed my lift I mounted the bumper and went to bed. In this shot you can see the bolts weren't placed in the tire carrier. I ended up having the wrong pattern lug nuts for the included studs so I went to Oreilly's and scored some. Super happy they did cause I went to HD and OSH with no luck...

Things I'd have done differently:
- tacked everything together on the truck. I didn't do this and no my recovery points are a little askew.
- ground down the end caps to sit flush inside the tube stock on the swing outs. While not 100% necessary, it would look nicer.
