Trying to pool some knowledge as I'm sure I'm not the only one who's curious.

I'm running the Toyota H4 upgraded headlight harness in the 60'. I've been running H4's for the better part of four years and the bulbs are a noticeable upgrade from the sealed beams. Thus far I've run the following bulbs

1. Sylvania Xtravision 9003.

2. Sylvania Silverstar Ultra 9003

3. Phillips 55/100

They've all worked well, with the exception that they only last a year, sometimes a year and a half at most. The Sylvanias sometimes go as quickly as 6 months. Is anyone using bulbs that last longer? and has anyone tried running the H4 LED conversion bulbs like these?

SEALIGHT H4

The truck is driven daily, and snow is a factor that's kept me away from LED's for a time. However, if I was to tally up all the bulbs I've bought over the past four years, I'd have probably paid off a set of headed LED Lights. trying to see if there's a quality bulb out there I can get two years out of, or a better quality light.

What are you guys running that WORKS, and for those of you with the upgraded harness - is there anyone running LED's with an upgraded harness? and what'd you do to account for the polarity?

Thanks
- J

@ToyotaMatt

As someone who has the Toyota H4 harness Kit, and all that it includes. Do you offer the bulbs on there own?

no ,

- my original PIPE FREAM was to bring the FIRST 100% all JAPAN GLASS , H4 LED Headlights Kit to the Land Cruiser Owner Operators Table to Enjoy

- i as of yet have never seen another all GLASS H4 LED Exclusive kit for any Land Cruiser ever ?

- i also cover not only the 12v Volts community but my kit indeed applies to and covers ALL 7" round TOYOTA 24v VOLTS vehicles applications GLOBBY also

- 60, 61 62 40 , 55 , and 70 SERIES applications with the said above spec's

- no cheezy plastics of any kind to be klear here ........

- without the POWER of the KOITO JIS GLASS H4 housings there would be NO future for any of us at all here on this topic

- i have a agreement with my LED portion of the kits OEM Parts Maker , to only provide the O-RING Sealed GLASS Diodes , that are NOT a KOITO product

to be klear here , , to my company

- this way a GOOD thing stays good

- if i simply offered up the LED Bulbs by themselves stand alone parts product ?

- then i would be betraying my original Vision and Dream , and that would simply bot be good for anyone , including me ......

thanks for letting me share :)

I found an I-phone fits pretty well in a FJ62 headlight housing so I have four of those with the flashlight feature turned on

JW Speaker heated LED assemblies. Cost a grand to do all four, but easily the best upgrade I've made to my 62, second to the H55F. Well worth the investment.

I used Hella 80/100 watt bulbs and I think they lasted at least a decade or 15 years before finally burning out.
Like OSS said, Hella bulbs certainly seem to last! I have a pair of very clean old 7” Carello headlight optiques (a rough performance par with the good vintage Cibié optiques) with Hella 55/100 H4 bulbs (55w low, 100w high) that have been running well over a decade (i think i put them in in 2007…) now. I do use ceramic bulb connectors, and the lights have a relay harness powering them. Really nice bright accurate lighting!

I’ve had mixed results with every bulb out there. I mostly just buy the cheapest sylvania bulbs I can these days and carry spares. I think when I ran the 100 watt hella bulbs I got about 6 to 12 months out of them.

Hi, I’ve used the silver star for years and never had one go bad unless a rock hit them,or bush or deer. Mike

Refreshing the dilectric grease (clean out the old as well as packing new grease in) in the headlight connectors when I change bulbs has made bulbs in my wife's FJ cruiser go from lasting 6 months to not having to replace them in 2 years and counting.

i had hella h4 and h1 housings with a good halogen bulb and the IPF wiring harness. they were pretty good (way better than stock though) but dimmed over time. then i hit a deer and exploded one side so i used it as an opportunity to upgrade to jw speaker lights. there’s just no comparison. they are so much better. i’m actually getting pissed off now at people who keep flashing their brights at me when they are on low but maybe that’s just a sign i need to adjust them better 😜

How’d you get around the reverse polarity? I thought those speakers weren’t plug n’ play for us 60 guys

Are you running an upgraded harness? I’ve heard they get hot and some replace the H4 connectors with a ceramic variety
The ARB m002 loom is the upgraded harness and comes with 3 relays. I believe the bulb connectors are plastic. I have not had a problem with hella 80/100s.

you need the upgrade harness only for the halogens as they draw a lot of power. the jw speaker can run off the original wiring but you do have to build an adapter. it’s well documented here…

this is for the fj62. there are some threads with 60 wiring harnesses if that’s what you need. just have to search a bit

searching around on Amazon I am realizing that a relatively new development is the H4 LED bulb. Some have fans built into them. The lumen output is advertised as much more than a standard h4 halogen. And the prices are more but not that much more. I do wonder though if the polarity issue comes into play with the LEDs. Our Land cruiser lights are negatively switched. I just wonder if the LEDs will last or be as reliable. Besides having no heat output to melt snow, these things seem over engineered with built in circuit boards and fans. Just more ways for it to fail. Does anyone have some experience putting the H4 leds in there upgraded harness? I'm talking about plugging in something like this:

Amazon product ASIN B08HHGM42L
Am I going to be one of those asses who drives around with the bluish/white lights that blinds everyone? Are LED lights street legal?
