Damn, look at all that rust. She looked so clean too!

This is exactly why i had the body work on the Walrus done first....to make sure i didn't have rust hiding, my skills are precisely at zero for welding, while J could throw down the cleanest bead in the world drunk, with his eyes closed, in the dark.

I would have thrown up and curled up into fetal position if i had to deal with this. J's a master.

Agreed. I'm only halfway decent at sheetmetal welding and don't yet possess the patience to fit parts together for good sheetmetal work. I wussed out and replaced my body instead of spending the time to repair the rust

This is coming along nicely. Do you think Goss will be making it out to Oregon next month? We'd be able to play stereo 4bt music on the overnight run. :)

I will supply beer, maybe even cigars and bourbon/scotch.

I'll bring the Pappy, but you have to furnish everything else... ;) If everything goes right and I go to OR alone for Cruisin the Woods with Boots and Esh.. I could stop by for a day or two maybe and help ya out.

Thanks for the kind words, my welding needs some help of late, IMO... :meh: Its funny, I have no patience at all for most things... HA!

I contemplated this as well Johnny. But chose the easy way out as you can see...

I hope he is ready, but if not, Joe (FJC) is at the ready. I'm trying to get a hallpass for that week or so, but since the wife and I are looking at moving to the PNW... I may get trumped on going alone. There are several locations in that area and WA we are interested in.

Got into the shop this morning and didn't feel like doing much. I decided to clean up, I have been lazy the last few days and have been in a metal hoarding state of mind... every piece of scrap has been saved until today.
After cleaning up, I decided to start on a 32/64 ton - 42" press brake :meh: , TT--SWAG hybrid in the making. Should help out quite a bit on a day to day basis. Got most everything tacked/stitched in place. Table/stand started as well... :grinpimp: Build the bridge and jack supports .. whenever... HA!

You might consider a bunch of ceramic coating on engine stuff. I had a ton of it done to my over the top Nissan diesel and it is amazing at how cool it keeps things. I am sure the top mount oil cooler and duel I/C doesn't hurt either. I never have romped on the engine yet, just some driving around the property but revv'ing it up to 2500 and with varying loads. Turbo stayed so cool I could put my hand on it after a hard run around the property, never seen another diesel like that myself. Food for thought!

*Edit: my Garret T3 is also water and oil cooled so I am sure that helps.

Pete, I've been in the oil and gas industry all my life. Pipeline welder, roustabout, welding QA/QC/CWI, construction/project manager.. etc.. had an oilfield fabshop in TX for a few years... blah blah...

Just always liked building things, especially welding. If I see something, I can pretty much reproduce it to some degree.

Thanks,

J

CWI, construction manager... What are you doing building bumpers?!? Lotsa high dollar work out there for a fellow like you. You taking a break?

Nah, it was done when the engine was built, in Australia! Long story.....

Cheers

D, Been doing it for quite awhile. Tired of the BUREAUCRATIC BS... Need a change for a bit.. Yes the money is great, but my wife, health and happiness are more important to me than helping another A$$HOLE energy company make another penny.... I actually want to get where I do the CWI thing about 2-3 months a year (or none) to cover yearly expenses and fabricate at my own pace the remainder...

OFF BOX NOW..

Cheers,

J

Yeah a little out of the budget there... HA! Maybe Salt Lake has a coater? I still want to look into it. Need to find a powder coater first.. The local guy closed his shop last weekend.

J, just curious: when you consider your brake to be a 32/64 with a 32 ton jack, do you have a secondary mounting point, say, a rocker arm of sorts that doubles the jack output? Pretty sweet. You could potentially widen your customer base if you started making Roll Pans for Minitrucks. Nah, I don't want to share... stick to the TLC!

Hey Danny, good to hear from you.

I have 2- 32 ton air/hydraulic jacks. The top of the "punch" will allow for either 1 or 2 jacks to be positioned there. I will mainly use a single jack, but if I want to say brake 36" of .250".. I'll have that luxury.

Until I get it built, I'm not sure of its capabilities.. I am using two brake calculators. One must have a safety factor built in where the other one doesn't.. So, I'm looking at expectations through the higher needed capacity at the moment.
