Those bare heads get expensive to outfit!

In the end that new 1fz will hold value

Could've done the ls swap and just get the Montana LLC... Or move out of Cali 🤣

Moving out of Cali is in my future. I'm a teacher so unfortunately I would make more at Walmart in most states than as a teacher!

That's a shame! I never understood why they do that to teachers.

Or NOS Toyota. My late 1997 production LX450 had the old style HG when engine pulled and postmortem performed after showing signs of failure at 209,920 miles In August 2020. Now have new short block and head. And the new style HG. And the original engine had never been into.

Picked up the completed head today from the machine shop (of course, I forgot to take pictures) and dropped it off at my mechanic. It looked so nice I told the machines that I just want to stick a piece of glass on top of it and turn it into a coffee table. My mechanic told me that he will start on it on Monday. I'm hoping to have a running Land Cruiser in a couple of weeks. It's been 10 long months since it's been operational! I told the mechanic that I will be coming by every day to take pictures. Thankfully, his shop is only five minutes from my work so I can go down on my lunch. I want to hold his feet to the fire to make sure he gets it done. I want to take pics so all of my compatriots here on mud can make sure it's done right!

Update on the engine replacement: I my mechanic, finally, started working on building the new engine. When he went to put on the head he discovered that the cam sub gear (pictured below) was off 180 degrees so the hold for the pin to go through was in the wrong place. The head has to go back to the machine shop to get that corrected. Ughh! Still crossing my fingers
🤞
that I will be driving away with the 80 by March 25.

It was definitely not cheap. I held on to the end, but was finally convinced to replace the cams. Glad I did. I spent the money (and more will be spent) knowing that there would be a certain amount of value retention in the effort. I did look into an LS swap, but only if I could get it CaIifornia CARB compliant. That proved to be a near impossibility so I went in this direction. definitely want to move out of Cali - i'm counting the time to retirement!

If you're not already, I'd def recommend getting a new fan at a minimum since it's out.

Good luck!
Putting in a new fan and new fan clutch and new radiator - plus hoses! I figured if I am going to put $10k plus into a motor I better spend another $500 to ensure it stays cool.

Did you consider a V8 or any other type of swap? Mine he 308k, runs very well burns about a quart of oil in 5k miles but I’m always reading and thinking what I will eventually do some day. I also have a 1fz sitting on a stand that was rebuilt 19k before I rolled the rig it was in back in 2015. More horses would be nice at times but with an engine sitting here not sure I could justify a swap. Im a big diesel fan.
