I don't know much about different model & yrs . I used the later model, not the 800. I think some where in the early 70's they started the Scout II (2) & they made them till the end, 1980 mght be the last yr. I found quite as bit of info using the search function.

I seem to recall something about the 13/16 input shaft being prefered.

Mmmmm fresh clean tranny stuff. Awaiting the master rebuild kit!:bounce:

Hey Cliff did you get the axle work done yet? Also what about the spring hanger / shackle stuff? Just wondering as I didn't see any more mention of either. I'm liking this "rebuild" thread... good stuff and food for thought. Never been super happy with the spring under setup I have.

Nothing on the axle/steering yet. I'm getting the drive train in order 1st. Then reposition it all in the chassis. Then I'll focus on the front end. I need to have all the drive train stuff sorted out before I make all those critical decisions. Like cut & turn or not, shackle reverse or not, maybe Scout sag box instead of moving what I have now. :hhmm:

Then it's on to the cage upgrades: Seat cradle, gussets, reinforcements, frame ties, etc......

Will it ever end? :banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:

So I got my trans parts kit and set out to put it together...........
Stalled now because they sent me the wrong springs/keys for one of my synchros. :frown:

Not to let a below 90 weekend in AZ pass without some progress, I jumped into reworking engine mounts.

Old mounts gots to go. No laughing at the booger welds by yours truly. It was long ago, low experience, with a flux core 110 welder, engine in place, upside down and no auto dark helmet.

Frankly I was surprised at how well they resisted being removed.

After much grinding and banging, the old junk is gone.
Frame is clean and I have shooken loose another pound or two of hidden ancient mud. And a muffler clamp.

A slightly lighter mock up assembly.

Next step: design and fab noodling.

It really does seem like we are doing very similar projects.

Ha! Lots of us doing similar stuff around here I guess.
You're in way deeper than me though, no tub removal here.

I'm in a repair, rework and upgrade program.

A little work week work

Still waiting on the correct parts for the trans. Got a replacement synchro key kit in the mail on Monday....still wrong:rolleyes:

So a little more clean up........

Belly armor now degreased and de mortormudded. Ready to go in to make a reference point for motor mount fab.

One hurdle down. Transmission is complete and ready for a little paint

Main shaft installed;

All buttoned up....

That transmission is looking great. I will be tearing my transmission and transfer case apart soon and going through them. Rationally I know that I shouldn't be all that worried about doing it, but part of my screams that I will be getting in over my head on it.

Got the engine placement nailed down, (I think). The measurement process has been quite tedious. :bang:

Shooting for drive train centerline on center and parallel with the center of the chassis.

Got the front axle loose and out of the way a little.

>Measuring up.......

Manual transmissions aren't that complicated. Just big and heavy. One of my better classes back my auto tech school days nearly 3 decades ago, but I had to dig in the memory banks for stuff nearly forgotten.

My biggest hurdle was improvising the jumbo sized custom GM bearing pullers/installers. a good step by step overhaul manual and parts break down is a big plus as well.

edit.. and a press is a must!

New goodies on the porch!
Replacement manifolds made by Dorman........only the finest Chinese products for me!

A surprise to me.

I'm glad I found them on Amazon for $82.70 and free shipping instead of paying upward of $100 each at other places such as Summit.

Oh well, we see if they last.

The pitfalls of mixing old and new GM designs.
Apparently rams horn manifolds don't exist peacefully with later model motor brackets on the driver side.

Are those the 2" or the 2.5" models? I just ordered a set of the Dorman manifolds off of Amazon as well. I ordered the 2.5" and they have the extra tabs on the ends for the alternator mount. I suspect I will cut them off, but they do look slightly different than what you got.

674-501 is the part number. Later model Vette application.

Got some materials and some cardboard dolls started.....

Turned some of that material into scab plates for the frame, and tacked in place
