I'm looking at this on Ebay they call it a liner, made of plastic, my question is this used in place of the metal top cover. My project is not a 100 pt. resto so a simple plastic cover for the top of the tank would work just fine for me. Can anyone fill me in on this?

What year is your 40? Pre bucket seat trucks did not have covers. These rarely rust out so people with used parts often have many and correct colors.

Classic Cruisers has a huge stack

Listing on eBay states 78-84 FJ40. Tank covers were used 74-78. Later (1/79+) the tank mounted to the bottom of the tub. E-72 was a larger tank and cover is too small. Probably forty years ago bought a cover from a 74 to use in my 68. Two gallons larger tank the cover is too small. 73 didn't have a cover but would probably beade to work fairly easy.
