Looking for some help. Been reading forums about a fuel leak my 80 has developed. It appears to be coming from somewhere on top of the tank. I think the carbon filter was plugged and it may have blown a line off. (Hopefully) anyways. I've gotten all the lines unhooked and cant seem to get the tank to drop out from between the frame and the transfer case. Am i overthinking this or is there something I'm missing? Looking for any pointers or tips. I'm sure it's something simple but I'm struggling with it at the moment. Thanks in advance
1) It's not a line blown off. The tank is cracked on the top of the tank.
2) Use PB blaster and lube the two hinges and the two bolts that hold the straps that hold the tank to the bottom of the truck.
3) Drain the fuel out of the tank using the plug on the bottom.
4) Remove the second row seats, lift the carper flap, and remove the fuel pump and lines from the top of the tank. (You WILL need new copper washers to put it back together)
5) Loosen the clamps on the filler neck where the lower part of the tank attaches to the rubber hose, closest to the tank. This is on the upper rear of the tank.
6) Loosen the straps and lower the tank shield and tank to the ground. You may have some interference with the driveshaft and the tank, depending on lift and ability to move things around. You SHOULD be able to drop it all without removing the DS, as I have personally done this.
Odds are, you have now joined the "Cracked Tank Club".... See the following:
take the back seats out, remove the cover, unhook the lines. now the fun part is getting under your truck and dropping it. there are 2 large straps and the filler neck keeping it in. the filler has a big pipe and one small pipe to vent. the straps are just bolted in on the sides to the frame. its not hard unless you wheel your truck and its covered in 20 pounds of mud.

Jb weld and an oriellys tank patch kit. Have to get a pair of crush washers for the main line. I may take them with me and just match as autozone didnt have them anywhere, when I went to get the new charcoal canister. If the jb weld and patch dont hold long term (I'm pretty confident it's going to) there's a radiator shop close by that will weld it for me. (Called me back after the tank was reinstalled).
