Newbie question again. (At what point do I get to stop prefacing my new threads with that line?) I guess when I stop asking these type of questions.

Anyway, I have a 78 FJ40. Had this mustard yellow baby since high school (1988). I am about 2/3 of the way from finishing a tub off restoration. I did a pretty decent job of labeling all the harness and fuel lines. I recently got hold of a sweet 72 tub, wire wheeled it, epoxy primed it, painted and lined it. I changed out the brake and fuel lines while it was off. Its on now, but access from below into the passenger compartment is not obvious. Specifically the out going and return flexible 3/8 tube portions of the fuel lines, and the wires to the sender and seat belt need to get through the tub but I don't know where. I guess I could pop a few holes, but I am sure there is correct access for these lines and wires. There is an "hour glass" shaped grommet that fits around the rubber fuel lines that presumably fit in an hour glass shaped hole in my old 78 tub.

Thanks in advance for your help. If you have pics of these items coming up thought the tub on your early 40 I would love to see them.

I'm pretty sure on my 76 that the double grommet carried the fuel and sender harness together, but dont know if that is original. Thats the way my "mustard" is wired now though FWIW>

Cheers

There will be an oblong hole that accepts a two hole grommet for the fuel lines, and there will also be a smaller round hole for the fuel sender and seatbelt wiring.

Thanks all
Fjsnoozer - take a look at the attached pic. Is that the hole you are talking about? Behind the hump towards the back?

Crazygreek - I assume you are talking about a newer Fj40 like my 78. I have a 72 tub I don't see those holes you are talking about.

The other attached pic shows the the only holes I have in and around my gas tank divot.

Thoughts ?

Hmm. The 72 tub looks very different than the 78. The hole in that well for your fuel tank would be for a fuel drain (I think). I don't see where you'd route the rubber fuel hose and return hose from the tank. And your '78 harness may need to be modified since the route you're looking for may be a stretch. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Mine is a 74 tub and has three holes just between the seats toward the rear. 2 large and 1 small. don't se those on yours. My 74 is a Non USA as well. Still has the 72-74 center console.

On that second picture of the fuel tank well, you can see another small hole at 12:00. That middle large hole is definitely for the drain plug. That smaller hole is too small for 2 rubber fuel lines. Maybe its for the seatbelt and sender wire. If so, is that safe to have it right along the fuel tank?

I was checking out this thread, ( https://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-series-tech/507859-gas-tank-aqualu-tub.html?highlight=fuel+lines+tub) and Caddisfly's posted pic has the picture of the oblong hole. I looks as if he has all three fuel lines going through (2 lines and charcoal line). I think those are also the sender wire and seatbelt wire. Question is what year truck and whre is that hole. I huess I'll just make the hole so I don't have to do any craazy re-routing or modify the harness. I will PM Cadisfly to hopefully comment. I hope I attached that thread properly.

The stock tub on my '78 had holes in it for those lines. The Aqualu tub has similar holes, so all I did was thread the fuel lines through that oblong hole when I changed tubs. I have not transferred the gasket that helps seal up the fuel line hole, but I plan to do that soon.

I did have to re-route one line -- an emissions line that feeds back to the engine compartment. (There's a picture of it in the thread you mentioned.)

Do you want me to take some more pictures from different angles? Do you want me to check out my friend's '73 FJ?

Thanks
If you can explain where that oblong hole is exactly on your truck I think that should do it. Thanks for the picture offer, but I hate to put you out. I'll just cut an oblong hole for the fuel lines and a couple of smaller holes for the wires if you can explain where they are. Thanks again.

I looked at some pics of the aqualu 1978 tub on their website. Looks like the oblong hole and the adjacent round hole for the wires is behind the tunnel opening about 6 to 12 inches back. I guess I'm making some holes. Thanks to you all for the input.
