Hey fellas. For those that have changed the fuel filter did you swap out any other parts?

I talked to my cousin, master tech at Toyota, and he recommended to swap the plastic clip on the opposite end of the 14mm nut.

He also suggested swapping out the white plastic clip holding the line.

Only $5+ or so for the small plastic parts above.

Did any of you experience leaking after the swap do to not changing out the plastic clips?
I've replaced my fuel filter twice and reused those plastic parts both times. They were robust enough and have not failed in 160k miles thus far.

^ which clip for that p/n @1point4?

The part includes the L-shaped clip and the fuel hose.

Small piece runs about $5.

Fuel hose with plastic clip runs about $80.

Those are dealer prices. Can be had for less.

I didn't know what I was going to run into with the fuel filter swap. I bought just in case. Gonna return the part if I don't see the plastic clip leaking.

Thanks, I looked up the parts at dealer near me who has an online discount business. Both parts total about $53. I know plastic is brittle, especially when it's cold here in the NE. A backup plan is always good for me. I'll check mine out before I order though.

I just replaced mine for the first time in 225k miles yesterday. Just a note - the green clip stays on the old filter and the fuel hose slides off when you depress the tabs. Once the filter is off the truck you can gently remove the green clip and reuse it on the new filter.

Zero curse words were uttered during this task. Super easy.

I also just did at 102,000 miles. I had to use an oil filter wrench to turn the fuel filter (after loosening the cross-bolt that clamp to the body mount), the hex fitting just didn't want to spin. I reuse both plastic tabs.

Resurrecting an old post here - just had my filter replaced with a WIX and the green fuel line connector clip gave out on the way to work from the shop...didn't realize this until I parked and noticed the gas gauge was down to almost empty after 25 miles of driving (started at just over 1/4 tank). Then I noticed the trail of gas through the parking lot and a giant puddle under my rig. The clip went back onto the post of the fuel filter and made an audible click and seems to be holding tight without any leaks...but I don't trust it if it already popped off.

I'm ordering just the green clip hoping that is the issue. # 90923-07002

Might post my issue on the main 100 Series board...

I've never seen the clip come off on it's own. WIX could be the issue.
Yeah - that's what I'm thinking too. I'm guessing the tab that's on the 90 degree metal tube coming off of the front side of the filter is not big enough for the green clip to hold onto. I'm just buying Toyota parts from now on - thanks for the advice.

if it happened 1 time my guess is it was not installed correctly. it was not lined up with the notches or it was not pushed on far enough.

If you heard click as you installed both times I'd be concerned, otherwise it was likely install wrong (not pushed in). See if you can pull/shake it loose, without squeezing clip.

I pulled and shook this thing for all it's worth and it's still solid. I had it running while someone hit the gas and nothing moved, so I'm just crossing my fingers that the clip was not pushed down all the way so both tabs locked in place. I think it's good to drive home - I'll probably stop every 5 miles or so to see if things are still intact. Thanks for your input gents.

I used a WIX filter, zero issue for 2 yrs now. You must hear the click.
