I am planning to widen the front fenders about 2” to get 12.50” tires under the fenders.

How you have done it? Where is the best line to cut? Straight or follow the side panel?

Keep your stock one and get some Alu or fiberglass wide fenders , if you change for skinny tires in the future just switch back to stock fenders
I have wider fiberglass ones, but they’d need so much work (too much work) to get fit as well as I’d like.

I have no need and no plans to get thinner tires. 35x12.50R15 are just optimal for my liking.

I have seen people cut down the centre line and weld a piece in. Thought about that but ended up buying some fibreglass flares. It looks good but not very sturdy - certainly will not survive a good whack.

Time for the cutting wheel 😎
Let me get first the new OEM ones tomorrow. I already happened to sold the originals... 🙈 because I have those fiberglass ones.

Got them. There would be the best line to cut (inner line of the tape).

if you cut down the middle you get two seams, why not cut near the apron and only have one visible seam?

Edit: Just went out and looked at my fender you could even cut at the rear edge and ptettyuch hide all the seams. Not that you can't do a nice job welding and grinding, but that stuff always warps and just easier to mostly hide it.

Stop! Why don’t you just get a pair of Aqualu wide aluminum fenders? Seriously, check them out.
These cost $400/pair, Aqualus are $1227/pair+shipping (over Atlantic)+taxes and they are too wide (+3.5”). 2” is enough for cover the tread, more looks stupid.

Would cut the outside plate there, but not the support underneigh, would extend that on the end of the support

Wy don’t you make tube fenders?

I understand you got these to Cut them up therefore look at separating the fender skin first.
If you drill out the spot welds using a spot weld cutter, you can easily weld them up in the same location.
The other benefit is that you can widen the support separate and improve rust resistance.
The fenders have a light crown in them which makes it more difficult to widen them without making them look off.
If you take the skin off you can use an English wheel to shape them.

You might also look at the rear of the fender, tapering them in to the side step make them look more stock

I haven’t done any measuring but I would have to think a different wheel offset would get a 35x12.5 under a stock fender.
Not possible, at least 15” or 16” wheels (would hit to TRE).
