A couple reasons of doing an engine swap now could be that you've got some spare wheels to take the pressure off, and you know the truck is well maintained. If you think of all the little things you've done on the truck that peace of mind and not to mention all of the big and small hits to the wallet really add up to alot...

Some good points for sure; thanks Toshi. I'm still pretty attached to it, and you're right, without time pressure now, I could take my time to fix it up properly. Don't need to trailer camp this summer really either. Will introduce kids to 'real' camping (tents), haha.

Two is just right. Summer - roof off convertible. Big hardtop for those times it's needed. I figure you got it just right!

I don't think I'd be up for a second... too much rust.

It's good to have a reliable daily driver that needs very little maintenance. And on the plus side a set of decent wheels cost about the same as one tire.

Between this set and the second matching set with Perellis that were $150, I should be good for 4-5 years or so. It's quite surprising the difference between 55 series tires... and 45s. The 235/45R17s are so much more responsive and even reduce body roll.

Yes… it’s our low maintenance daily. In 16 years and 220k it has had the plugs replaced once, front brake pads, a mechanical water pump, rear shoes, a water control valve, rear struts (Toyota saggy rear syndrome), tires, oil changes, a couple light bulbs, wiper blades, and a couple 12v batteries.

Vs… In 34 years and 120k miles…

engine x2, transmission, T-case, front end, rear end, rear 3rd member, rear floor, frame, hood, hardtop x2, hatch x2, radiator x2, rear heater x2, tires x5, spring bushings x3, rear springs (TSRS), shocks x3, fuel tanks, front seats x3, rear seats x2, winch x2, mirrors x2, windshield and a ton more things that I’ve lost track of.

It still has the same windshield frame, cowl, and floor under front seats.

There's an early and late style head. If he has later 1990 or newer, I may be interested. These are different than the Canadian market 2lt heads of the 80s.

Haha, no worries. It'll be a while before I get wrenching again. I don't mind paying a fair price for a good used one if that makes any difference; just didn't want to buy brand new is all. There's one in Vancouver, but it's $800 plus the ferry which is a bit much. Something on the island would be nice to save ferry cost.

Broke down and made offer on used head from Vancouver. May as well put the engine back together in good enough shape it's fine to go for a while again. Seller shipped free which is pretty cool.
