Actually went to work on the truck more today. Sadly found the middle pistons have cracks too; just not through pistons. I don't have four spares. So looking at new OEM ones.

Toyota ones quality is far superior to the aftermarket ones I've seen. But there are only 'Mark 2' pistons available. Mine are all 'Mark 1'. Both are standard size, but Mark 2 is 0.01mm larger. I'm guess the bore has worn at least that much in the last 25 years. So, think Mark 2 pistons are okay?

I’d think they would be safe. That’s only 1/100 of a mm. I’d bet inclined to run a ball hone up and down your cylinders to help the rings seat… unless that’s not something that is done on diesels.

Thanks. Yeah, I'm just to lazy to remove block to hone. In situ with crank below probably not a good idea.

Good luck with this, I hope it’s up and running soon.
I'm starting to really appreciate what I had. Browsing new cars, I just realize the level of build quality in a old cruiser is truly unparalleled. Will get er going. Partsouq received 1250 bones from me today. Pistons and bunch of other crap.

I have such a love hate thing with my 60. I grow to hate it , then I look at what I could replace it with and back it goes.

Think I just need some absurdly impractical midlife crisis car to get a break from it once in a while.

Maybe grow a mustache.

I can imagine your new moustache now…

Not quite that, but I had this...
Guess why I don't have it anymore 😆

Got some time in yesterday on the little turd. Compression manually turning over feels great. Long as I don't spin a bearing on startup, I think it'll be okay. For a while anyhow....:meh:

Drumroll please…

Come on now, you must be dying to flash it up.

Thought I could get it going this weekend. But need new crank pulley bolt. Old one is stretched....I don't have a torque wrench that goes to 175ft/lb, so have probably over torqued it a few times too many in past. Has pretty odd shape now from stretching. Figure better safe than sorry. So another week...but everything else will be ready to go. Actually missing the old beasty. Looking forward to having it on the road again.

I have 3 that go that high and I'd be happy to loan you one.

Thanks man. Hopefully this is the last time, so I'm not to worried. It's just the bolt I really need! Ordered, but a week out.

Found I had a spare crank pulley bolt.

Started the bitch up this morning before I commit to finishing belts/coolant/intake/etc. Fired right up and built good oil pressure quickly. So, I'll finish putting everything together and run a bit longer. Then will change oil again and look for bearing debris....; the moment of truth.

Amazing, you must have been pretty happy to hear it running again!

Thanks man. Yup, definitely happy. Still lacking some faith on how long it'll run well, haha. If it goes a week I think I'll be fairly confident it'll be okay a few years though.
