Hey sorry it took me a while to get back to you guys i have been flying around.

Anyways,
-Seats were rebuilt and reupholsterd in Cd'a ID for 1200.
-Carpet with tail gate peice, (sewn) was $400
-Instalation done in town by Mountain Upholstery for $150, which included labor and materials, aka better carpet pad/glue/ect.

I will take some pictures on sunday when i install my seats back in. Can't wait.

Interested in front and rear mats, or just material (to get mats made to my spec with rubber backing, if that is not how they come) once you decide on the closest material to stock, thanks for the good work and research on this

OK!! Got two sets of samples and the one from www.autockm.com is VERY close to the stock grey, and seems VERY similar to stock material, though the loop is a little bigger. It is cut and sewn, and I was talking to the guy (Jim I think) on the phone and he was very familiar with the floor pan of the Cruiser. I was looking at the stock carpet I pulled out while I was talking to him, and it sounds like he knows what he's talking about. I asked him about install, and he said I would probably have to make 3-4 slits to accomidate everything. I plan on buying his kit ($425 for the four piece) later this month. I'll keep you all posted.

I actually do not have any original floor mats to compare to. How similar are the mats you are considering mats to the factory ones? If there was any merit in trying to reproduce some to resto quality I might well be prepared to take the time to get a first set made, and see if anyone else wanted some ...

You say four piece....what's the fourth piece, the carpet for the tailgate?

Not really looking for an OEM match. Just want something that looks nice and is HIGH quality.

Yeah, the tailgate piece.

Any updates on these projects? I'm in the market for some carpets.

Thanks.

It still confounds me that there are no aftermarket supplies of oem quality replacement carpet that matches the texture (loop pile) and matches or at least closely approximates the oem colors.

I suppose it's because land cruisers are low volume to begin with and even lower volume when it comes to aftermarket stuff.

Its also most likely that many Land Cruiser owners have low volume wallets!

I just bit the bullet and ordered the SOR molded kit. My mechanic tells me it's pretty good. Might not be perfect but it's a hell of a lot better than what I have now (torn, stained, dirty carpets with a funky smell). I explored custom carpet but that didn't go too far.

I really couldn't find any first hand postings about the SOR stuff. The price doesn't seem out of line (esp considering some of their other prices). Some of the earlier postings in this thread had interesting options but nobody followed up. Can you post your thoughts of the SOR kit when you get it in?

I'd be happy to. I went all out - got some dynamat type stuff, the felt padding and the carpet kit from soup to nuts - tailgate, wheel wells, etc. I'll take pics of the before, install, and after and let you know what I think.

I am in the process of laying down Damplifier. Not sure I want to put the same ratty carpet back in.

It looks and feels fairly close to OEM but isn't nearly of the same quality - not as dense and tends to pill and tuft fairly easily. Color match is very good and pre-formed shapes are reasonably accurate. A fair amount of patience and skill is required to carefully mark and cut out aperatures for the seat belts, seat brackets, heater, etc... but once installed, looks good.

Have been running this SOR kit for 4 years now and it is showing wear in areas not covered by floor mats and this is in a low annual mileage rig. Wear areas are appearing already on the SOR kit in places that on the original OEM piece never occurred.

Probably wouldn't buy again. Will use the OEM carpet as a template next time and cut my own from high grade marine carpet.

My firsthand 2¢,

Great review Dogboy. Maybe I will try one of those other places. Doesn't sound like the SOR kit is too bad, but it also doesn't sound like I couldn't do better somewhere else.
