Anyone with an 80 Series Land Cruiser will, one day, eventually have to deal with the Floppy Mirror Syndrome (FMS). Now this is not to be mistake with Shaky Mirror Syndrome (SMS). FMS needs something a little more that what modern medicine can offer, it requires surgery. In this case you *could* just pound a 16d nail into it and call it a day. For those of use that don't solve our problems with nail, there is a more refined solution.

Remove the mirror currently experiencing floppiness. Decide if you want to either pound a nail in the shaft or go my route. Either way works.

If you go my way then just place the new piece and Mark for drilling and then drill both sides.

The bent tab washer not needs to be pounded flat before reinstalling. Reassembly is made so much easier by using a vice to collapse the spring. Then just screw in the two supplies socket heads and you’re done. It’s ready to reinstall into the truck sand floppiness.

Mine just broke. Haven’t taken it apart yet and found the clip on the ground. I was reading some threads about rerouting the wires when using a bolt. With this fix I’m assuming no need to mess with the wires?

The wires have plenty of room like they did before. Chaffing on the screws might happen after many many cycles. Hundreds or thousands is my guess

The wires are thankfully in a sleeve already.

Nice product. Now you will need to produce an upgraded triangle trim piece that comes off to access the bolts. It’s always a 50/50 gamble to get it off in one piece. At least with me.

Actually I’ve been looking doing something a little interesting with it since there is some space for add-ons

Not to disparage your eloquent solution but just want to throw out that its also possible to grind new grooves 90* out and slip the c clip back in. Which is maybe a bit better than driving a nail through the thing. This does look easier/better though.

Oh I don’t disagree. I actually started with a hose clamp until that gave

This looks like a great solution. I was lucky enough to find junk yard pieces to fix mine. They of course required painting. If they give out again this is what I am going to do.

Does the FMS fix also cure SMD or are the syndromes mutually exclusive?

Nice! Sadly I’ve got Shakey Mirror Syndrome with the complication of flaccid sun visor disorder. I’ll be filing this away should my symptoms worsen.

Finally a real solution to the problem!

I’ve had black electrical tape holding my mirror in place for the last year.
