fj80 cruise control speed sensor (2 Viewers)

I couldn't reach the connector on mine. Did you splice the wires or something? Reached all the way up on top of the trans and didn't feel a connector.

yes, it's an aussie company, those pictures are from my 91 fj80. my cruise works perfect!

just a heads up. cruise speed sensor went out, like all the fj80's do, finally found a plug and play replacement. found a company in aussie land called New England Instrument co. they make speed sensors for fj80's srews right in in place of the old one. order the HALL EFFECT SENDER 12-24V 4 PULSE C6001. works great, easy install. little pricey $106 plus about $44 shipping. if you have some tax money left over well worth the cash.

Hey 76lcmike thanks for your post. I received my sensor yesterday and i have a few questions about the connector. Take a look at these photos: did you splice the connectors together or did i recieve the wrong sensor because the new one is to short.

If you did splice them, I'm guessing the red and black wires match and the old yellow becomes the new blue wire. Is this correct?

you are correct to be honest I just cut the connector off and spliced and heat shrinked the wires to the old wire 3 wire pig tail off the old speed sensor wire harness

Mine arrived this week. Unfortunately I'm still waiting on my HDJ81. It was finally loaded onto a transport in Oregon yesterday so i should have it by the middle of next week

Life is good! New speed sensor installed and working!
Key bottom out keeping unit from turning, added about 3/16 of spacers and hand tighten, cruise control have been revived.

that sucks. test the brake switch and wiring. make sure all good.
there are plenty of info on here about 80 cruise problems and how the system works.

i did not have any issues, I think mine was hanging down already. gotta get some tiny hands on it or just splice it into the harness you can reach.....good luck!

Thanks so much for this. Ordered mine last Monday. It arrived from down under Saturday. Installed it today and once again I have cruise control! I am beyond stoked! Took a road trip over Thanksgiving without it and vowed never again.
