Thank you Mike! So glad I found this forum. So many of the car forums are just junk. I’ve been a member of an old BMW forum for many years that has been super helpful, and a member of several others that have not. Mud has been a great resource!
Merry Christmas y’all!

sorry i just saw this, yes this site is awesome, everyone helping out each other.

yes it is, happy cruising!

@76lcmike How did you go about finding this, and determining this would work? Great work, looks like this is the only viable solution I can identify by this afternoon.
i read a bunch of other posts about cruise control and once I knew the signal speed and thread size then I spent days on interweb and happen to find this aussie company, read the specs and and took a gamble and it worked!!!:steer:

Awesome, guys. Really appreciate the research that went into this.

Quick question: what do you recommend using to seal the junction between the speed sensor and the gear box? Is that RTV I see in some of the pictures?

I have mine and am planning to install tomorrow before heading to SAS in Ouray, CO this weekend!

Cheers,
Austin

are you talking about sealing the threaded portion??

Just a note, speed sensor has survived 3 years and over 20K miles. New photo shows minor oil seepage, red RTV silicone looks OK.

Can anyone please confirm this works on a 1991 - HDJ81?

anyone has the cable that joins this sensor jack to the main factory harness? mines missing.. seems that's why cruise
control never worked lol

or is it that the wire that is attached to the speedo sensor plugs directly into harness? i just found it draped over transfer case and not plugged into anything

Here's a link to another thread with photos FWIW

nevermind, i found the jack ontop the tranny and plugged it back in. now to check if cruise control works

yes, it's an aussie company, those pictures are from my 91 fj80. my cruise works perfect!:steer:
I have never used my cruise control 7 yrs of ownership. I am pretty sure it isn't working to begin with nor interested in fixing ..

my ocd would never allow a non-working function that supposed to be working... to not work. even if I don't use it... it MUST work

Hello sirs, I hope your cruise controls are all working well still and you never had to think about this again... however if you happen to spot this thread, I would appreciate some help with identifying what I would be plugging the sensor into. First the ground work:
1990 HDJ80R 1HDT Auto VX (Aus). I've in years past done all the cruise control diagnostics and determined it had no speed input (no change in flashing lights between sub 30km/h and above).
Motor and servos were tested working on a bench.

Seems that at some point the speedo cable was replaced with one that doesn't have the sensor at all... a thing I only recently became properly aware of.

As all of you would have done, I checked for the part number and find it discontinued, then stumble on this gem of a replacement option, YESS!!

Like a few others though, I'm struggling to find where I'm going to plug it into.

I can locate the 'transmission wire' as I believe it's known, and can see that at some point that was modified, and high up on top of tranny I found a loose triangular plug, which I think has a blank making it 3 wires despite being 4 pin connector.

Seems like everyone's plug location is different in this thread, but wondering if anyone can give me at least a semi confident 'yea that would be it'.

Then the challenge will be reaching up there to snip off the plug and either splice or installer new plug... really isn't much room to get up that high :\

Photos:
1. Speedo cable output with a converter to account for 35" wheels
2. 'Transmission Wire' most easily viewable and closest to the speedo output. Can see the broken wire and the splice-around.
3&4. 2 views of the loose plug I see tucked away further up on the tranny. On the complete opposite side to where the speedo output is - hence not sure if this is what I'm after or just some random loose thing that is perhaps made redundant by some modified transmission wire harness.

Bonus points: If anyone can tell me what that triangle connector is, I can just plug a new male connector on to it and run as much extension as I need... It looks like it's probably this?: 3 Pin Toyota Crank Angle Sensor - https://www.efihardware.com/products/3085/3-pin-toyota-crank-angle-sensor so I would need the matching male

Thank you!
