Currently swapping my cracked stock radiator on the FJ62 with the CSF2708 with the transmission cooler in the bottom. Upon removing the cooler line fittings from the stock radiator, I found no o rings, only 2 copper crush washers on the 90 degree fitting with loads of teflon tape.

What is the correct way to install the factory fittings into the new CSF radiator? O rings, crush washer, or nothing at all? I have searched with no definitive answer. Heading to the parts store now.

TIA

Transmission cooler lines have orings between the elbow and the radiator. Or at least mine did.

One O-ring ea.

Toyota PN: 90301-11006

I wouldn't use a generic hardware store O-ring there. Asking for trouble. Who knows if it'll be OK with hot ATF..

Thanks all! O ring it is. Found some at the auto parts store that fit perfectly. Will order the Toyota parts and swap when they come in. Got to get this thing up and running for Monday.

Did you have the trans cooler pressure tested? There was a mud member who lost his transmission because the cooler had a leak.

No I didn't have it tested. If I recall correctly, that guy got a new trans out of the deal, so I'll take my chances. Lol

So I'm in the process of installing the CSF 2708 into my FJ60 now. I've got everything bolted up, but when I crawled under the truck to hook up the bottom hose, I noticed that I have an open threaded hole to the left of the bottom radiator hose outlet/inlet... The petcock is to the right of the hose (looking from the backside). Is this open hole for transmission cooling lines? Obviously I don't have a tranny cooler. How do I go about plugging this hole? Maybe the petcock from the stock radiator will fit into it? I'll give that a try, but is there a better idea? Anyone have pics?

The open hole(s) is for the 62 trans cooler lines, as you accurately noted. Years ago CSF made a 60 specific radiator, but now all that is available is the 2708 that does both. My local radiator shop gave me plugs to fill the holes. I also know that some people with 60's have used the trans cooler area for their power steering system.

Thanks Zack. It looks like the old petcock threads right up to the new radiator's AT cooler holes. I can plug one that way, but I'll have to source another petcock for the other. Does anyone know if these have a standard thread pitch that I can just go to an auto parts store and request, or are these different from model to model?

Another option is this mod that Kevin did, (@kevinmrowland ) but I can't find any details or a parts list. It looks like a very cool idea though. I wouldn't mind doing it myself since I'm already in need of a solution anyway. @cruisermatt Did you ever end up doing this mod? If so, do you have any details? Thanks guys.

No I never did. I believe the AT cooler bungs are M14x1.5

I’m having issues with my cooling system but they are all symptomatic of a bad cap. I ordered a new generic cap but it’s too big. I looked at the sticker on the radiator and it’s a csf but I don’t know which part number. So I’m guessing this is probably a 62 radiator with the smaller style cap? Going to see if a parts store has one that fits tomorrow.

Also. Is my filler neck normal or had it been pranced downwards?

The CSF radiator uses the smaller cap. I don’t know the part number, but it isn’t hard to look up.

Yes, the fill neck appears to be tweaked downward. It’s a common occurrence that usually happens during shipping. I’ve had to send a few back. As long as you’re holding pressure, it should be nothing to worry about.

Get a test kit and check it out. Overheating can be caused by several issues. It’s best to work through the obvious culprits first.

You don’t have to plug those holes. You can just run it as is on the 60.

Luckily I’m not overheating and my heater works fine and my thermostat is cycling fine too. Just having rad cap venting issues.
