Kevin Rowland posted this briefly in his thread a few years ago, but it wasn't very descriptive. Has any one done something similar successfully that would be able to post up exactly what they used, fittings, hose, etc?

Thanks!

I should also specify, has anyone done this on an FJ62? I'm not sure if the location is the same on a 2F radiator.

I teased around with the idea of this. I'm still not 100% sure on the thread pitch of the radiator petcock. Is it straight cut (metric) or tapered threads (BSPT), etc.

If you're going to be draining your radiator soon, size the thread and report what you find. I don't think many people have done this.

Yeah that's what I can't find. I want to get it set-up so when I go to flush my radiator next week I can install it before ALL the coolant pours out, then drain the rest with hose.

IIRC they're a straight pitch. I would assume metric, though my current radiator is from Performance Radiator, so I can't say with 100% certainty.

A finer thread too I think.

You might want to poke through THIS catalog.

Just for ideas... maybe you might find something that could work for the drain spigot as well as this fitting used in the heat exchanger as shown below (pic is of fitting on heat exchanger)
FJ60 and 62 radiators are identical except for the heat exchanger at the bottom of the tank.

Only caveat with a hose extension set-up is hot pressurized coolant in a dangling hose. Fittings and hose cap would have to be top notch... Rated at minimum 30 psi @ 220º F for safety.

I've often considered adding a radiator drain extension, but in the end I realized that you just can't beat the simplicity or reliability of a simple drain plug. Also if you let it drain slow (dribble out) you can control how the dribbles drip with a few makeshift shields.

When you say heat exchanger at the bottom you mean the compartment ATF runs through right? Mine is ready plugged (no real reason to besides posterity) but does that mean I can use an FJ60 radiator?

I am also worried about the safety aspect, enough to make me think twice, and three times about this mod.

Straying from original topic...

I mean is there any reason I can run a radiator that doesn't have the transmission cooler? I don't have an automatic transmission. A regular 60 radiator will bolt in?

My current radiator is fine so I don't know why I'm rambling about this.

I don't see why that would be an issue if you are not using the tranny cooler. I am 99% sure the mounting is the same between the 60 & 62 series radiator. I will have an extra one once I swap in my 12h-t if you want it.

I'm more interested in this...
