I looked back a couple of pages, and didn't see this info. What year Montero are you using the radius arms from? There is a difference in strength, and people break the early ones. Most find arms from a '92 to '97 and swap them into the '91 and earlier models. I've owned 3 Gen I Monteros and LOVED them, but I swapped radius arms in the last one I built as I intended it for serious off road use.

You have some really cool stuff going on that rig, and I'm glad you left the wheels as you found them! LOL

They are the later model ones and seem to be pretty strong and holding up well. I am thinking of adding some reinforcements to the rear arms but we will see.

Thanks I am really enjoying it. I am glad I kept the wheels the way they are too.

went out to Chinaman Gulch yesterday and had a blast. still waiting on some pics and video. I really like the way it handles minus the leaf springs in the rear. definitely going with coils and my radius arm idea. I am also going to lincoln lock the rear.

Chinaman Gulch

Alright here are some pics from last adventure. The rig did great, but there are some things I will be adjusting and changing. I know a couple poser pics, but I did completely climb over them front and rear if that counts.

1. different rear bumper
2. weld up the rear diff
3. coils in the rear and radius arms
4. skid plate for the belly.

tried going up the far left on the water fall but, not having a locker in the rear and the low hanging bumper forced me to go up the middle. It was still fun but not as challenging.

here is where I ended up getting high centered. I ended up pinching my tranny shift cable under my t-case. It still shifts but just not as smooth.

Thanks Mark! I really need to get to some of the meetings this year. 2010 was a bit crazy.

I wheeled with chuck at Illinois gulch. His rig flexes pretty good. My
Problem is with the springs I had found I had to spring it under. It works great with flex and not worrying about axle wrap but the hangers and the springs constantly get hung up. And they are starting to sag.

Either I go through all the work to spring it over or just try something different all together. I want to try something different. I got the coils for free and the radius arms were only $25 each at the junk yard. I also scored on a bunch of tubing. The top is coming off and a cage is going on! I may be starting on it in February.

thanks! yours is looking like it is coming together too! can't wait to see pics of it on the trail!

Your co-piolet looks like they're having a blast. Nice shots.

It was his first time out and he definitely had a blast. He is an intern from Germany. He had never seen anything like it before.

gotcha. It doesn't seem it would matter to me either. All the ones I have seen are mounted under the axle. Of course that is in stock form and it probably has something to do with the angle they want to achieve at stock height. What I am going for is clearly quite different than stock form so as long as it works as correctly and like I want it to it shouldn't matter right?

Stock ones are below because there isn't enough room for them on top. 80's down under often flip the arms to the top to gain clearance. Performance wise, it does not change you're anti-squat or anything else top or bottom. With radius arms the link is center of axle to center of pivot, doesn't matter where the arm is mounted on the axle or the shape of the arm for that matter.

In the rough drawing you can see that by mounting it on top it changes the angle in relation to the frame. the blue represents the radius arm mounted on top. the black represents mounting it under. the main reason is the way the radius arm is designed (see pic of radius arms a few post up) it will not mount centered over the axle tube. Is that what you were asking?

Sorry to shead light a little late, but, orientation doesn't change anything, the workpoints are the axle centerline and the joint, to keep the squat under control the axletube needs to be equal or lower than the front mount, otherwise it will most likely be hoppy

are you saying the axle tube centerline inside of the radius arm needs to be lower?

thinking of selling it???

Ok so I am seriously contemplating selling this beast. I have no idea how to price it. the other option is to just keep my complete drivetrain and sell the body and frame. no idea how much to price that either.

The drivetrain is pretty much just awesome i love it.

I have some rust on the a-pillars, front doors and the back hatch.

frame is in good shape i have just changed the suspension and drivetrain 3 times so their is some things I never ground off to smooth because I hate grinding.

Any ideas how much i could get for it complete?

what about just the body and frame. all the electrical is in decent shape. power windows work, power locks need a little work.

I possibly have another very fun project coming my way and I can't have two.
