Hi guys! I've tried to look this up, but couldn't quite find anything exactly similar to my problem, so I figured I'd see if anyone had any ideas. Recently my 60 (Pearl) has started stalling if the gas pedal isn't pressed a little or if the choke is off. It will idle with the choke. When I turn the choke off it stays idling, but if I push the gas, when I let off the it dies. Also happens when driving if I downshift or break to turn. I checked the vac hoses, but not sure I know exactly what I'm looking at. Was hoping I would find a loose one, but no such luck. Any words of wisdom are greatly appreciated! Thanks!

If you have a stock 2f carb, check your idle control solenoid...ICS...stand on the drivers side, it's the large green electrical connector that goes to the Carb. Turn the key on, then unplug the green connector and then plug it back together. You should hear it click when you plug it back together.

If it does not, that's likely your issue. Look for bad wiring etc.

So you're saying that between shifts the engine will die? Or while engine compression braking down a hill the engine will be dead when you push on the gas pedal again?

Its fine between shifts, but if I downshift from third to second and hit the brake (like when making a turn) it will stall. Or when slowing down to come to a stop. But it's fine when I'm accelerating. Seems like it needs some trickle of gas or something to keep it running.

As stated, check your ICS first.

There is a small click sound when I connect the ICS just before the housing clicks into place. And yes, running stock 2F carb

My mechanic experience is somewhat limited and self taught...so excuse my ignorance, lol, but where is the distribuor cap?
Also, my luck was short-lived, still seem to have the problem, but somewhat intermittent. I've ordered a new ICS, how difficult are they to install?

Ha! I was going to go out and take a photo but my diz is pulled along w/ a bunch of other parts... I can add a photo of the empty hole. ;) smaller hole in photo (has a bolt hole next to it to the right, dip stick hole to left and to far right is the oil filter housing... photo of diz cap as well.

Photo of carb and me pointing to the idle fuel cut solenoid. If your replacing try to buy a used one and not one from China. It’s well known they don’t work as well as oem. I also pointed out a bolt on the ACC lever you’d need to remove to get the lever out of the way to loosen its 12mm end where it screws into the carb. Be sure to replace the o-ring on its end. Very tiny. Can befound at an Ace Hardware in their o-ring assortment bin.

Awesome! Thanks!! I'll see what I can do :)

It kinda sounds like you have a clogged idle jet. I have zero experience with these carbs but had this issue before on my VW and on motorcycles.

Would a carb cleaner, or something along those lines, help at all with that?

Maybe, but being that seafoam didn't clear it, I doubt it. Have a look at your fuel filter and see if any rust or crud is in there. Then have a look in your float bowl and do the same. Might be time for a carb rebuild.

Try the cheap carb clean trick by reving the motor up to about 2500 rpm and covering the intake on the carb with your hand (with the air cleaner off). It will suck your hand right down. Try to get your hand back off before it stalls. Hope this works.

Ok! I'll give it a shot

Well, I'm still at work now, so haven't tried yet. Should have time to tinker this weekend

Use a thick leather glove or a square of cardboard. Might be a tad hot bare skinned.
