Decided to do a late fj60 power steering conversion on my 71’ fj40. Found a 85+Fj60 gearbox, Saginaw pump and bracket. Anyone have pics and details on their conversion? Best place to source other parts? Things to do and not do? Any other info would be helpful. Thanks

Advanced Search, FJ60 power steering and scout power steering conversion. They are both very similar setups. There are plenty of threads w/pics about this subject. Also there's some info in the FAQ section at the top of this section.

Thanks. For some reason I found much about the Saginaw but not the fj60 conversion. I’ll do a advanced search

I think there are a few part #'s in my thread. but if not quick tips.. use the toyota slip shaft from the stock 60 column either the part that goes from the column to the box or the part inside the column. Both have the same spline count and Ujoint that will attach to the box. I'm sure just about any toyota in the junkyard will have a similar slip joint. Picture of your steering column to box as it sits? Will it allow you to press in a bearing Column Bearing PN 189431 Northern tool $5 for a 2pack

I chose the one with a vibration dampner built in.
Hose attachments to box Toyota - Power Steering Pumps, Kits & Components - Offroad Catalog - Motorsport Specific Products
allows AN fittings, easy way to make a hose
or Power Steering

if you can get the stock return fitting on the box to save from an AN return hose.
something like this but it is a 90degree fitting Toyota Steering Box Low Pressure Return Tube Fitting
also Pure choice and others have a
AFCO 37130 TC Style Power Steering Pump Adapter Fitting, Outlet
which will negate the Oring pump vs Flare fitting pump.

To save fab time Iron Pig Off Road has a 60 box mounting kit.
You will most likey need to trim the radiator U in the lower drivers side corner.
Slight shave to your existing shock tower to clear the ujoint
You have small knuckles on your brakes so the upgrade to a 60 or 70 series tie rod kit is at this time unnecessary. See if the tie rod end that connects to your existing manual box pitman arm will go over the ball on the end of the 60 pitman arm. I am pretty sure it will and you might be done.

Start around post #176: JPs '74 Resto-Mutt

I'm 90% done with putting my 80 box in which is the pretty much the same as the 60 box. The guys at IPOR also have pretty much everything you need. - JP

I am doing this too by using J6 steering box, steering shaft (parts of it) and J7 relay rod/drag link + J4 tie rod end. I don’t want to cut the radiator support, so the shock mount had to go. Mine is 24V (BJ42) so there is a battery tray at left side too. So I don’t want to add anything to the inner frame that it can be mounted like before (still need a lot of other modification).

This is how I’m planned to install the steering shaft by using J6 steering column parts, cut the collar and weld it to the original support + make the shafts match to each other:

This is a very common upgrade in Australia. I'm in the midst of setting this up on my 1970 [with 1974 cab].

I borrowed these pics off the internets [I believe that's an FJ55 uni]:

Down here a 75 series intermediate shaft is the exact right length and spline to mate the shortened, splined 1971 column to the FJ60 steering box.
