I finally got around to swapping the engine in my FJ55 (amazingly done in a single day because of my brother*) but have a lot of small details that need to be addressed before I can try to start it up. I'm compiling a list of things I don't have an answer for. I'll start with:

01. What size e-clip or hairpin goes on the 2F two-barrel carb for the "power-valve"? I might have one in a carb-kit purchased years ago but not sure and it would help if someone knows.

02. What's the best solution for monitoring oil pressure? The factory one has never been reliable in the 55's I'm familiar with.

03. Anyone in Utah want a free F 1.5 engine? I purchased it from Royal Rose back in 1999 I think. I think it needs some attention but maybe someone just wants it for parts. Free if you pick it up in Orem, UT.

04. Anyone know how to remove the oil smell from inside a vehicle? I had quite a bit of oil spill into that back of my FJ Cruiser and I've wiped it down but the smell will linger.

05. After some fuel sat in a fuel tank for a decade (without ever running in that time period) what additive would you suggest after draining the old fuel?

I'm sure I'll have more questions soon. As well as some photos.

* I think he is still on this forum.

2) You can get an aftermarket oil psi guage and hardware from a parts store.
4) Clean it down with Simple Green and hang an air freshener, or enjoy one of the smells that is but a small ingredient in the rich aroma that is known as "old truck smell".
5) Drop the tank and clean it out with any of a number of fuel tank cleaning products. Replace fuel lines and clean out vent lines with compressed air.

That sounds like a lot of work I'm not interested in doing but now will feel guilty if I don't. I'll add it to my list, thanks.

After one day I had two new wasp nests built in the front of the engine compartment. I was trying to finish hooking up all the fuel lines and electrical with wasps circling overhead like micro angry organic Apache helicopters.

Blackmarsh,

What's your plan for the body? Remember, Wasps are our friends. I act like they're not there, until they sting me

I find them pretty interesting actually. The bright blue cuckoo wasps locally are hard to find but amazing. I've photograph wasps and bees a bit this past decade.

I don't have plans for the body yet. I'm trying hard not to get ahead of myself. The vehicle needs to run first. Did you have a suggestion?

As for my next issue.

06. I just talked to Tres (a Utah Land Cruiser guru) whom told me that it is not normal that my engine mount bolts (from engine mount to frame mount) are too long. None of the bolts will go down that last half inch or so. Aside from blocking the bolt access to install the alternator the engine is also not snugly bolted down.

No suggestions, from me! That is a big bag of worms. All depends what you want from it. Good to not get ahead of yourself, one thing at a time. One suggestion: Have fun with it, when it becomes a burden, get rid of it.

It's been a burden for a decade, my goal was to get it running or part with it. The future is still a bit uncertain.

I've had it since 1998 and I don't think I've started it more than twice since 2000. It sounded like the engine was going to blow apart into little pieces and rain metal down on unsuspecting homes.
