I'm a long time viewer but first time poster. I have an 86 fj60 and I recently bought a 70 fj55. The 55 needs wiring and a new radiator. After reading about radiators for the 55's, I took mine to a local shop to see how much it would run to recore the sucker. I got a quote today for $400. This seems kind of steep to me. Any body have any experience with other radiators that would cool a v8 sufficiently for cheaper than this that fit without major mods?

I will leave the thousands of wiring questions I have for another post. This is currently my most pressing need.

Thanks.

Welcome.

If you can fabricate your own mount, you can get a radiator from these folks<---- this is a link that should work for you..

If you can custom fab a few mounts there are some really decent aluminum radiators from jegs or summit etc that are less than $200. I think I payed $169 for mine.

Too bad I paid $35 for the FJ55 rad then a year later $110 to have the top resealed and the inlet/outlets moved and still had a prob with overheating. Shoulda put the money into a new aluminum one in the first place.

I have a 60 rad in my 55. Easy mod. No V8, but unless your planning on a 400-500 HP small block, the stock 60 rad with shroud will be fine.

I am now leaning towards getting an aluminum one. I've found a couple that look like they would fit and are somewhat affordable. The stock one used side mounts. All the new ones I see use top and bottom brackets or weld on side mounts. Anyone have any experience installing an aftermarket with top and bottom brackets into a 55 and how hard was it to adapt? Is it easier tio just weld on some side brackets and use the original holes?

Since your buying a new alum unit, make sure it is a crossflow rad like the one shown in Poser's post.
