fj45 swb frame differences?!

i was visiting a buddy yesterday who's got my old zebranator 45swb fixed top truck. it's undergoing some pretty serious mods as well as a cab swap. he reoved the fixed top cab and installed a removable top cab which is obviously longer. since the rest of the truck is being modified he did'nt mind working on the rear bottom of the cab a little to make it it the frame.

so here's the scenario: i know that the swb pickups came with and without removable top cabs. since the cabs are different lengths, one would have to assume that the frames for the removable tops are longer.

so are they?

The only spec I have found for the FJ45LP is an overall legnth of 4,535mm 178.2inches. The different sources out there never define fixed top vs removable top

So based on the specs above the Fj45lp - swb is:

Removable top = 183.1"
Fixed top = 183.1"

The fixed top bed measures 72.8". The inside dimensions of a removable top bed is 64 3/4". We need to measure a fixed top bed on the inside or measure an lpb overall dimensions and see if they are the same...

I was thinking the beds are different, I remember the radius of the bends are totally different from removable to fixed. not sure if that correlates to a difference in length ???

wasabi on here just picked up the zebranator body from me a few hours ago including the fixed top bed. i will pm him and have him do some measuring.....

I have the tape measure out. Only one problem I'm at work and the trucks at the house. I should have some measurements tonight.

i guess what we need are inside and outside bed dimensions as well as overall chassis length?!

Well here's what I came up with on frame measurements for the long wheel base removealve top, 182 inches not counting bumpers or bumper brackets.
and 174 inches for the frame on the fixed top short wheel base not counting the bumpers or brackets.
The bed for the long wheel base is 62 1/4 X 85 1/4 inside and
the outside is 66 1/4 X 87 3/4
The bed of the short bed fixed top is 60 X 66 1/2 inside and
the outside is 64 X 70 1/4
These measurements were taken off the actual rigs in near stock form as far as I can tell. I can provide other measurements if necsssary including cab measurements, wheel base etc. I also have the LV on site to measure the frame, as there was some talk that it was the same or close to the swb truck.
Please let me know if these measurements seem way off and I will re-measure since sometimes we may all measure from different spots.

The beds are different. The fixed top bed is either 3" (or was it 6") longer, IIRC. I measured this years ago when I first got the SWB and happened upon a fixed top SWB. I measured again when Butch Baker got his SWB FT for comparison. I think the difference was between the wheel well and the cab.

I helped with this project and my buddy simply built a custom flatbed to fit. I have both fixed and removable beds and the fixed bed is 2 inches longer.this makes up the difference in cab size and the frames are both 104 wheelbase...

So 2" is the magic # I was looking for. Pretty sure I can drill out the spotwelds in the front of the bed and remove 2".. Thank you for the clarification.
