I am in the process of restoring a 1970 FJ40. I am at the point where I am looking for some 15 x 8 wheels with the correct offset that will work on the vehicle. So far I have found a lot of steel and aluminum wheels that have a greater offset that will work. The wheels on the FJ40 currently are Pacer aluminum wheels with a 3 1/2" offset. I found some Pacer steel wheels but their offset was 4" and will rub against the tie rod ends. I have researched 16" and 17" wheels also with no luck. Does anybody have any suggestions. I prefer black and am at the point where I will remove the skinny radials on the Pacer wheels, paint them black and find some larger tires.

You still can buy the OEM steel wheels at the dealer, and they come black. But they are the wheels made for hub caps, not the late "wagon" wheels.

Back spacing is correct but factory wheels are far from 8" wide. Usually the biggest draw back when looking for wheels for a FJ40 is the backing spacing and wider width have few options.

So does that mean that all the 15x8 wagon wheels with correct backspacing that are existing on fj40s (presumably swapped out back in the 70s and 80s) are becoming a rare breed?
