2 people removing mine about killed us. 3 makes it easy. I stored mine in the back yard and busted a corner window with the lawn mower (tossed a rock I guess). luckily I had a spare. I leave it on year round, now that I installed the A/C. The wife likes riding without the top, so I guess I will have to take it off again but will be more particular about where I store it.

I plan to leave mine on for now on. I had it off for about 3 weeks and it turned out to be a big mistake.
Really? I can't see it.

I love cruising around topless.
It's also great to cruise the trails with the top off and windshield down.

The first day I had it off my windshield got busted. And since then my luck has been overly bad. I just would rather keep it on and not have to worry. Anyway I might be strange but I think it looks better with it on.

How could going topless EVER be a mistake?! Unless maybe your guy with man-boobs....

Hardtop removal

Hi Guys,
Any suggestions on devices to suspend hardtop from garage roof and how best to store hardtop. Is there a pulley system for sale to make the job or removing and storing easier? How long does it take to remove hardtop if you are unaccustomed to doing it. I ordered new kit for seals from CCOT to replace after summer. Thanks

Well i used a come a long that I attached to the roof garage struts or either a ground block that I made. I drilled either an eye hole for a multi pivot pulley or a fixed p ulley and then added either a come along or a hand crank pulley to do it myself, as having friemds help is a bummer. You should think about a system that uses a pulley (manual or automatic) to engage either a 1 or 3 pulley system to slow the speed down on a block and tackle,

You guys with your clean garages make me sick. ha

I have mine stowed in the rafters in my storage shed, The top is laid upside down and the sides in it. Works pretty good...

Any chance we could put this in the Faq section. I'm sure others would benefit from it and possibly even add their own ideas.

@TEQ - have u or anyone else, successfully placed both the front and ambi doors on that platform in addition to the hardtop?

I was curious if it can take the weight, and the logistics of playing Janga from a suspended shelf above our heads! That's my plan but would benefit from some visual assurance that it can be done.

I have a pesky overhead light right where my system will go, once I overcome those logistics I will be good to go.

I followed 1911's advice. Here's mine:

Storage from the rafters

I just took mine off yesterday. I just unbolted everythig ,tied a rope up to the rafter above the front and rear ends of the hardtop and hoisted it up one side at a time. You can use a couple of 6 foot ladders to support each end while you snug up to the right height. I did this without any help, so it's doable. I just hope the roof trusses can handle the extra weight.

Hi, not sure if this is the correct thread, but I wanted to consider the hardtop/softtop option for the my FJ, would you share details on how you did it? How you secure the hardtop onecemit lands on its place, etc

Funny thing is... I was searching for it. Can't find any relative discussions, and this one is at the top, and I still don't have the answer I'm looking for. ;)
To what question?

Last time I installed top on the one with white doors I did it by myself in pieces. When I paint it the top will never come off.

Working on the final solution. Which is getting this one on the road.

Getting too old to be lifting tops. Plus storing a top. Ideally having a space high enough to where it's under cover and not worry about hitting your head on the two posts is what you want. I have quite a bit of garage space just nothing over 9'.

This is how I did it. The electric hoist helps a lot but isn't a must have. I had to turn the top around to allow my WIFE easier access to the side door. The hoist made it an easy job to turn it. When stored there is no weight on the hoist either. :)

Nice! I know this is an old post, but I'm new to the FJ40 scene and have been thinking I want to rig something up in my garage to take the top off by myself. Where did you buy the electric hoist and any other pieces used for this?

Thanks
