Hello folks,

I’ve benefited from this forum for many years, but haven’t posted a question before. I’m not very tech savvy, so I’m sorry if I’m not following protocol.

My question is about installing a Vintage Air Gen IV SureFit on an FJ40 with dash FD vacuum pull lever. I’ve reached out to Vintage Air, but they haven’t been able to advise me on this install. The vacuum lever obstructs the install and I really don’t want to convert to a floor shift (I know it’s crazy, but I don’t want to modify it anymore than absolutely necessary). Has anyone figured out a workaround? If you’ve done this before, you’ll probably know immediately what I’m talking about.

I am heartbroken that I have to make this modification, but I’m unable to drive my beloved FJ in Houston due to the heat. I love operating this time capsule, but the heat is honestly not worth it for me anymore.

Thank you,
-Cooper

We notched the Gen IV plenum around the pull and glassed it shut. I’ll see if I can find a pic.

Another option- albeit a ton of work would be to use an Old Air Hurricane evap in the cabin and then Use the Vintage Air in the engine bay.

Awesome! Thanks for the quick reply! I’d much rather modify the Gen IV than the FJ.

I'm not a purest but I like DIY stuff. I put big aux heater in my 72 behind the bench seats. At -20 the thermometer tag read 165 when I let it warm up for 20 minutes - most people beg me to turn it off after a while. If I was doing AC I'd move the heater over and put the AC unit next to it - with some ducting under the seats to move the cold forward.

I designed a step side pickup bed pop up camper for hunting. Small gas engine on the tongue to power a generator or compressor for the insulated freezer box, under the bunk (big enough for 2 boned out elk). The engine exhaust would be used for heating water or space. 100 # propane tank for cooking, lighting and space heating. Solar panels for LED lighting. The axle is 6 hole chevy, so I would 2 spares - one on the trailer one on the rig. Fold down table on the out side and removable dining fly cover to provide a dry insect free processing space.
