Has anyone swapped a 80 axle under a fj60 using leafs?

If so what did you use for steering?

How about using a 80 axle with 80 coils swapping the complete front suspension?

How about a fj80 axle under anything. With leaf springs??? What did you do for steering???

I have a complete 80 drive train and want to go SOA on my FJ60. Using the hp80 front and the closer to centered fj80 rear.

As well as doing the v8 /700r4dana 300 in one slam dunk swap.

I have the 700r4 the tbi 350 the fj80 the fj60. But need steering ideas>

I would really think hard about using the FJ80 front axle again. It is difficult to get the steering to work properly with leafs. The high steer arms are difficult to get, and still don't quite clear the leafs. If you are going to use the the 80 axle I think the easiest suspension to do would be a 3 link.

Trying leafs before I realiized they woldn't work:

Scott,
Thanks you are the only person I have seen who has used a 80 front axle. And based on your input It looks unfeasible to use said axle with leafs.

I had talked to another guy about using the 80 front with 60 outers but I fail to see the benfit.

Steering, Hysteer options, 6 stud availability, Just as Strong/if not stronger, and Cheeper parts all all reasons to Just stay with the Fj60 Axle..

Your rear 80 Axle is not going to work with the Dana 300. due to the offset 3rd.. Id sell the Fj80 Axles, use that money to build a beef fj60 front. you got all kinds of options for the rear axle

I must admit that I haven't checked but from what I understand the 80 rear is much closer to centered than the 40 or 60.

How about a tundra rear ?

Looking for full floater and discs.

Did it on my Taco with leafs. The steering sucks at best. The drag link is "S" shaped for clearance through the leafs. I'm gonna go full hydro once I find the motivation to work on my junk again.

Not really what you are wanting to hear but, I put Just the whole 60 body on top of an 80 I had.

Style of the 60 with the drive of an 80...

If you have the 80 series axle go with coils .. better ride better suspension ( ya I know more work and stuff ) I thought the entire knuckle in the 80 series axles are more resistance .. than 60 series front axle.

Plus maybe you have the e-locker ..

Coils pretty much the option at this point.

But then I had a epifiny (SP) what if I go OME heavy with the shackles and then run SUA HUH HUH that sounds brilliant to me what do you think.

You really can't SUA with the 80 axles because of the offset of the pinion. If you look at my photo of the 55 SOA you will see that the spring wouldn't clear the e-locker. You would have to out board your springs at the frame. If you outboard you would also need a lot of backspacing or wheel spacers to keep the tires from rubbing the springs when you turn.

I have OME heavies front and rear and an inch body lift, and went with the fzj80 rear (with ff and db and elocker).
and thought about the 80 front axle but went with just putting a fzj80 rear elocker-ed 3rd into my stock fj62 front axle added longs. I run trxus 34"s don't have any rubbing issues and have a nice low center of gravity and it handles great.

Ryan,
I measured the 60 and the frame is 31.25 outside to outside, It looks like it would work I know that dosen't mean it will but It appears that I would be able to get perches under there.

With the lift that would open up the clearance between the chevy pan and diff.

I am not stuck on the 80 front well a little bit. I should just find a different front end. But am being stuborn.

Jason could you tell me how much distance there is between the top of the axle tube on the front and the bottom of the frame?

Well I am gonna run with the SUA 80 front idea. I just bought of craigs today a HP8 in elocker front. (300.00 works good, pinion seal leaked and they installed a complete new e-locker third) Replaced the pinion seal and sold this thing to me for 300.00

Right now I am waiting for the adapter for my v8 swap. when the engine swap is done I will start the suspension/ axle work.

If you run into problems getting the elocker motor to clear, you can always run the non-elocker third with an ARB.

The 80 axle for sale in my sig was setup SUA when I bought it(previous owner had used it in a buggy), so it has to have worked in some way or another.
