Dan, the faux-d-5 is looking good, now paint the damn thing!!!! :grinpimp:

OK,

Why didn't YOU run for President?

I would argue that your tow rig, and your 40.5 are two of the coolest rigs on the site, and you did both of them on a budget.

Stop building trucks, and step up to the plate!
  • Fix the damn economy!
  • Tax breaks for low gears!
  • Higher taxes for non-recycled vehicles (X2 for those with no transfer case)!

We lowered it by doing a shackle reversal in the front and using stock FJ60 front springs.

The back sits a little high but the spare tire is not mounted yet and the fuel tanks are pretty empty. Estimated 500lb of weight with 44 gallons of fuel, spare 39.5" Irok, High-lift, etc. It should level it out.

With the Shackle reversal, I will need to get the front driveshaft converted into a long travel version.

Help me out by thinking of an air snorkle / cold air intake set up for this rig. The aprons are cut so no real room to come out of that area like the rest of the 40 series do.

It will get the 1974 FJ40 carburetor when I find all my linkage pieces.

In my opinion, nix the snorkel idea. The only rigs I've seen that NEED a snorkel are the trucks from events like the Camel Trophy stuff. All over seas stuff. In California, I'd be blown away to find something deep enough you would need a snorkel and that you wouldn't get washed away while crossing.

Besides, snorkels look ghey!

I think Dan is looking to play a little further North down the road. Somewhere where river crossings will be a big part of the game. ;)

Would there be clearance to run it back into the cowl and up between the windshield and the hood? (remember I know nothing of how the 40s are laid out) You could have a short cold air intake end there that swaps out to a ABS or PVC snorkel piece when needed.
