First FJ40 build in a long time

I don't mean stock shackles. Just the smaller of the two barbell shackles.

Shackles can provide, at most, half the lift of their length over stock. Stockers are 2.75" pin-to-pin, according to SOR. So your 5.25" shackles are 2.5" longer, so can provide, at most, 1.25" lift. They only lift one end of the spring, the other end is not lifted by the shackle. Got it?

In practice, the shackle is not usually straight up and down, so the 1.25" of lift is further reduced by the cosine of the shackle angle or the sine, or something.

5.25" is really long. You would then need caster wedges in the front to rotate the axle back into place. I think that's what I run on the rear of my SOA, but they sit at 45 degrees.

Okay. I just checked my post and I typo'd the 3.25" measure. (3.75" oops) Yep. a 2" spring lift and these shackles will give me the 3.25" lift needed for 33x10.50s. Perfect. Now does everyone agree that OME is the way to go?

(thread filler to get myself up to the 10 post level so I can post more pictures.)

Nope. it will be a 2" spring lift and about 0.5" shackle lift; half the difference over stock.

Stock is 2.75", yours are 3.75", difference is 1", so you're lifting one end of the spring by 1", so the center of the spring will be lifted by 0.5".

33s will fit fine with this lift. Your biggest issue will be at the drag link on a full right turn. Adjusting the steering stops and maybe using 1/4" spacers will solve that.

I never did a SUA lift, but I'd go with OME if you want a kit or Alcans and Bilsteins if you want it to ride nice. With Alcans you also have the option of custom lift, like 1.75" or 2.75", or 3" or whatever.

No. Mine are 5.25", remember? That's 2.5" over. 1.25" lift.

Alcans have been getting a bunch of hate lately as a heads up, and ome run short lenght wise leaving a more vertical shackle angle. Roll the dice im sure a short search would bring more up on either than you would want to read.

The organ donor has arrived. Runs like a champ. A little thievery and some cleanup and the green one's up for grabs.

The OME kit comes with shackles and shocks. The whole kit gives 2.5" of lift and superb ride. You'll have no dramas running 33x10.5x15, but 12.5 may give you fits.

Okay. I pulled the trigger today. OME suspension. 33x10.50 BFG ATs, wheels, and about $4500.00 in all kinds of stuff for the whole build. I'll have a few more purchases but not for much. It's gonna look like santa drives a big brown truck here in the next week or so.

Good on ya Rainey; no faffing about. You'll love the combo, that's what I've got and it's great.

It'll hurt when it's time to give this 40 up but remember, this truck isn't for me to drive.

Nope. The green one will be a good starter for a trail truck but not up to my standards. You've got to remember what my last Cruiser was like. This one will be valued at or about 6k. And my spare "car junkie" cash is all going to my '32.

Here's what the '32 looked like about a month ago...

I thought maybe a picture of a '32 was out of bounds but then I realized that we're all "car junkies" and a nice ride is a nice ride no matter what it is.

I've got a '53 Hudson Hornet in the garage right now that I'm taking care of. I take it out once or twice a week for a stretch. If it's not a sin here I'll post that too. Kind of off topic...
