Still fighting this vacuum leak. Oil cap gasket changed nothing and sprayed brake cleaner for awhile but couldn't get anything to change. I am noticing if I pull my PCV hose, the car dies - this shouldn't be happening right?

Yes. You've created a source of unmetered air ( after the AFM)
The ECU won't account for the extra air, and won't add fuel to suit.
That makes sense to me, thanks. The oil I'm finding in the PCV hose is obviously less standard but will push that off for another day.

There are only so many places for vacuum to leak. When you had the upper intake off did you replace all of those little hoses? How about the throttle body and upper intake gaskets?

How does the PCV grommet look, is it all dried up or ok? I forgot but did you replace the spark plug gaskets when the valve cover was off?

Make a list and go through each one and check them off as you go :)

Yep every vacuum hose and most of the plastic components in there too. Both gaskets, replaced PCV grommet + spark plug gaskets. I think I honestly replaced just about everything I could that touches vacuum. At a certain point I think I need to pull the upper intake again to absolutely verify my vacuum lines, but I'm pretty sure it's not that.

Sounds like its coming from the TB/under the upper intake, but can never really isolate it.

It is worth buying an inexpensive smoke tester. I tried all the tricks and it wasn't until I smoke tested that I located my final vacuum leaks.

That's kind of what I'm leaning towards. Do I have to do anything special, or just pop it in a vacuum line and cover the other end?

I put mine in the intake tube with the provided adapter cone and it worked well.

Sounds good, will order one today. Worth it if I can get this vacuum leak resolved, once I solve that and get the last rusty nut off the O2 sensor I think it'll be in a very good place.

Well, tried the magic smoke machine in a couple different spots and got no smoke leaking out anywhere. Will try again later haha but likely I'm overthinking this.

Finally getting to work on this leaky transmission drain plug - it's leaking quite a bit at certain orientations. I can't screw it in or unscrew it, no amount of pulling down/trying to get a flathead underneath has gotten it out. I don't really want to pull the pan full of fluid, so I'm just gonna let it drain and see how much comes out in 24hr naturally. I don't think it will be enough though, rough estimate is it would take weeks to drain this way.

Is drilling a hole in the pan and welding it back up a poor idea? Obviously if I do that I can't reuse any of the fluid.

It's frustrating and messy but you are going to have to sacrifice the fluid in the pan to get it off of there for a proper repair.

I used a cheapo harbor freight fluid hand pump with tubing to get most out of the pan before dropping. Minimized the mess.

I’ve mostly accepted that haha, but are you saying it’s not horrible to drop the pan with the fluid in it? That seems crazy messy

Where are you putting the tubing through though? Trans lines on the front?

Got it out no problem, didn't even need to siphon again, only spilled a small amount. Gonna work with my friend this week to fix this, got a couple different options.

FIPG or the Napa gasket though when putting it back on? I like the idea of FIPG because it works really well, but not sure how confident I am in my abilities in a weird spot like this.
