and i have gotten my stock steelies back from paint... the color is an absolute perfect match to the stock grey, base coat/clear coat... ordered tires and should have them mounted soon...!

UPDATE!!!!!! haha wow it has been a while since i posted....

the rig is doing well... much replaced as way of the motor, the important stuff... running very well, (it does take a while to fail these guys in)

received my drip rail from Alex @ paki tops! great product thanks!

my floor is straight parts porn, i will post very soon... excited to put the doors, and hardtop on, long time coming...
 
Excellent fj40, great work! I'm guessing we're about the same age, except I'm not near as handy as you and I'm sourcing alot of my body work to my father (auto body guy). Similar to you, I purchased a 78 fj40 3 yrs ago in perfect running condition, except that it was a rust bucket in the back end. I've been hooked ever since. Would like to compare notes some time...perhaps I'll start a new thread!
 
front doors

started by installing the new rubber guides on both the supports on the doors. the old ones are alms unrecognizable...

-installed door lock regulator (no need to install star lock washers at this time because you will no doubt need to do install this more than a few times)
install the end plastic holder pieces (in blue here) before you do any of this work.

-i also connected the 90 degree bend lock pivot now too. much easier to install before than later.

-install the outer door handle and you will see what you have to work with.

-my regulators and outer door handles are from cruiser corps and door latch regulators from ccot. they do not match up without some crazy bending and a whole lot of trail and error.

-i had to shave a bit off the guide on the regulator the make in skinny enough to fit the slide opening. (see the arrow)

-after 15 times or so of istalling, tweaking and reinstalling haha you should be able the freely trigger the regulator with the pull handle inside and the outer door handle.

-now tighten everything down after you fine tune it all.

-install the window regulator ann bolt down in all the places with an arrow.

-the left side with the 2 bolts in the picture is your window tilt (horizontal) control.

-roll down the window near the bottom. you will see the two spots to blot the glass to the support. get out your 10m ratchet and proper hardware so you can throw it in there when your close.

-now it time to slide in your glass, be careful. tilt the glass into a front nose dive to slip it in.

-before you tighten those two bolts, line up the glass in the rear guide.

-now throw in the top felt. install the outer piece first (this is more robust and you will need the room. now do the inside felt. this should go in pretty easy and take care not to scratch the paint.

-roll the window up and take notice of hardware for outer handle protruding. (i had to trim the thread off so it would not inter fear)

-with the window in the upper position. slide the inner guide into place and bolt up.

-slowly lower window and check to make sure you are now lined up on both sides.

-fine tune and tighten.

-i manufactured some supports for the lock rods. they will rattle without this. these resemble the OEM supports originally installed.

-took some high density plastic foam from my computer equipment shipping box and used a small bread knife to trim into a "U". some spray adhesive keeps it in place and you can trim a few more spots for detail.

these clips supplied with the door panels are not very good (ordered some OEM from toyota) but, the door panels themselves (from CCOT) are nice.

11 clips each... very clean looking after all done.

before you secure the window crank, roll the window all the way down and up to see where you would prefere the crank stop not to interfere with your knee.

OEM weatherstripping

i found it very useful to mask off the area you will be applying the 3M adhesive to, peel off, then apply to weather striping. by then it has dried long enough and the contact made is perfect. make sure you work in medium sized sections.

Masking Tape?? Crap. Wish I would have thought of that two months ago.

Wow, thank you so much for that picture. I was going to order those panels as well. I had no idea they were not wood backed like the factory panels. do they have enough stiffness to create structure? I may end up installing speakers through them in the door, since there are existing mounts in my doors for those.

The little plastic cups that are in the hole... Did you buy those from Toyota along with clips? It grew most of mine away as I was cleaning the tar off the doors. It was 91 today here, but the fiancé won't let me boot finish everything at once as I wrap up my build :hillbilly:
 
sure snoozer-

well the panels are great if you DO NOT want to install any speakers. They are study enough for the OEM install and im happy with them... the clips they supply are crap.

i got a bunch more from toyota at around $3 each!! :mad: (with a hefty discount)

the little plastic clips i got from SOR, they fit right in... still 91 in austin!!? wow
