Somebody has a shed full of wood.

I've had all mine cut since this summer, but I need to get busy splitting it. I have enough small 'round' wood to last the first few cold snaps, but now that its cooler weather...there just isn't any excuse for me not to get the rest split up and stacked.

Crap, I've been burning full throttle for the better part of a month already. There's been a few days here and there that I haven't cramming wood into the stove but not many. There's a long time still before we're done with winter.

I've probably gone through 1/2 cord so far.

Obviously Ohio is not Montana - but I only had 4 small fires in October - and that was only because the girlfriend was over. Based just on that it was the warmest October I recall. But of course it's 8 degrees this morning.

We are out of Juniper.....
I asked the wife to pick up a couple of bundles at the Circle K to use as kindling.
Too bad they don't supply the napalm to start it with.
I venture a guess it has been floating in a river for the last 6 months.
It's like trying to split a sponge.

Finally finished off this pile.

Hah, I had to mow my lawn yesterday (01-18-2020) because there are already dandelions popping up everywhere. Crazy warm here this winter.

After almost 40 years of heating with wood I put in a furnace four years ago and am loving it.
I cut and split my own wood in the passed but haven't missed doing it.
Still have the wood burner setup and a sizable stack of wood for emergency though.

6,000 ft in the mountains of Montana and we're still burning wood everyday. Mind you it has been in the 30-40's, just to take the chill off of the house in the morning. When it is this warm this early in the year I always feel like it's a prelude to a really SH- Itty spring. Last year we never got one, it was winter, spring-summer lasted a couple weeks and we were back to fall again by July.

Here’s how I stack firewood in my shop. My friends and family think I’m crazy but I love saving space. I love everything about firewood. Here in Oregon I burn a variety of firewood. Douglas Fir, Lodgepole pine, Tamarack, Rocky Mtn. Juniper, Red Alder, Bigleaf Maple and Oregon White Oak.

Just out of curiosity, do you have to worry about termites up there? This far south, almost any woodpile you have will get termites in it. Don't want to put them too close to a house or any wooden structure for that reason.

I never have worried about them. Have never seen any signs of termites boring into the wood.

I'm in trouble... I've fallen in love with Oak from my trees. This is some wood! I can't bear to burn it any more. And to think that I thought that pine is real wood when I was young and naive...

Who needs a dozen charcuterie trays? :)

Finally getting around to splitting the wood from that 100 year old oak. The boy is putting in some work this spring break.

Another mild Winter in Deep East Texas. Got lots of firewood left over.

Actually had to mow the grass in some parts of certain pastures yesterday.

Should have plenty of Lodgepole Pine firewood after closing on 3 more acres this next week. Here was my last trip to my one acre lot a couple weeks ago. So much fun in the mountains of Oregon.

Question for you pros. I need a new mid range chainsaw to handle cutting larger trees. I use my 40cc husky in the woods all the time but I need to replace my larger husky that died on me. I'd like something that can run a 24" blade and can be counted on to be reliable.

Lately I've been looking at:
stihl ms 291 - 55.5cc - ~$450
jonsered cs2255 - 55.5cc - ~$430
husqvarna 455 - 55.5cc - ~$430

What do you guys think? Are there other models I should consider for the price/power ratio?
