Anyway.... DEFINITELY if the head bolts were loose the head would not seal tight to the block.
Yes, but even the two bolts that required a 2 ft extension on the wrench to break them free, may no longer have been clamping the head down to spec.
It may not have been that they were clamping the head so tight, as they were probably more likely just seized in the block threads.
Very true.... when I took it apart last night it was actually so brittle and old that half was stuck to the upper plate and the diaphragm actually cracked while I was trying to remove it.Heck even if it's not OEM quality its better than a torn one.
