I don't know how to evaluate rust on a vehicle. This is a 2007 Connecticut LC with about 130k miles that I am hoping to get for around $17k . How bad is this rust? Buy with confidence or run away?

Thanks!

It's bad enough I'd not take a second looked. But I don't buy from rust belt!

I would not recommend.

if you're in California shop locally, or in the southwest. I got my cruiser from Albuquerque - totally rust free. wish I lived in CA

pass.

For 17k there are other trucks
Be patient

Man, patience is wearing thin. I want to get going on my first LC! :(

I'm holding out for the right one. But honestly, I feel like settling at times. What's the worst case? Buy a $15k rig, fix it up a bit, then the "right one" comes, I buy it, and sell the first one at no real loss. Idk... The struggle is real for us on the outside looking in!

If you were local to CT and planned on keeping it less than 5 years it might make sense. Those of us in NE look for car where you are and ship them this way to avoid rust like this. Be patient. You’ll be glad you were in the long run. It took me a year to find my 80 and then my Hundy. These trucks are 10-20 years old now. It can take some time to find the right one.

You're on the west coast. You don't go poking around the NE for a cruiser.

It is pretty rusty, however, you'd need to do a thorough inspection - spend a good hour under that thing with a brass hammer. Lightly tap around, poke around and see if anything seems soft. Check the body mount points and the cross members specifically.

Honestly, if its rust on-top of a solid structure, you can take a needle gun and scale most of that stuff off and then get it professionally undercoated. If it's not a rot box, at $15-$17k, you could easily drive that thing to 300,000K and then move onto the next.
