One stud is buggered and needs replacing. I’ll clean them all up with the tap and die but should I just try to get them all out and replace them? If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Every time I try to clean or improve something that isn’t broken, I make a mess out of it. But it’s apart and all…. Thanks for the feedback and arnak is the bomb if you haven’t looked at his build! D
That bolt looks like it has lost a lot of meat, can you replace them? I hate losing sleep over refusing something in that condition. BTW, I am saving to replace mine exhaust system with Cruiser Matt's stainless system. Hopefully by then end of the year??
I did all four on my exhaust manifold last year. It's a grunt, but the peace of mind is worth it.
As much time as you can allow for a good penetrating oil like Kroil or Mouse Milk to soak in from both sides of the flange, and lots of heat (MAPP torch at minimum) and cooling cycles on the stud. Use the double nut method. Half a turn out, oil, quarter turn in, oil, half a turn out, oil, etc until you either get it out or it gets loose enough to freely remove. As with most things, patience is the biggest factor.
I had one on my T100 manifold that no matter what I did would not come out. PB for multiple days, torch, welded a nut .. etc etc etc. worked on it multiple days.. finally gave up and drilled it out and tapped it for new hardware . Just fyi.. these can be a MF’er to get out
My machinest buddy says to just fix the one and run over the threads in the others. But I bought 4 studs and 4 nuts and the 2 washers for $27 and $15 for shipping from partsouq. And will be here in just a few days. Crazy. I’ll get the one out and then decide on the others based on the amount of frustration.

Appreciate the encouragement though! Had to drill out that obligatory one on the thermostat cover. Not fun. Then learned to weld and did a fillet weld on a nut on another one up there and Shazam.

I'll just drop here the technique that always works for me : mapp gas heat to as hot as possible, douse with candle wax. Heat again and more wax or whatever penetrant you have. I'll do this 4 or 5 times then hit with penetrant and give the flange and stud a bunch of gentle taps to start some capillary wicking. Let sit overnight and repeat the heat, wax, tapping. After a couple days, I've never failed to have one unthread.

Welded a 17mm nut to each until the stud was pretty red then cooled the stud with water. Went slow and used lots of PB Blaster and they all came out with just a little muscle. Also did a dremel grinder to flatten out the mating surfaces. Thanks for the advice.
