Sooty exhaust pipe

my 62 is at 310k miles. Burns a half quart of 15-40 every 3500 miles or so. As with any Toyota it starts up rich but seems normal when warmed up. 14-15 mpg highway, exhaust is never smokey or black.

Exhaust pipe has black soot forming around it. Most of my driving is highway. Ignore? Diagnose? Thoughts?

Mine is sooty - I think all FJ62s might be. I wouldn't worry about it. Ignore!

I recently replaced my exhaust so cat back is brand new. Mine had black soot build up after the first drive. I think this is just normal.

My 2f did this same thing. On startup it would shoot soot onto the wall
