I finally got around to installing my new catch can (and PCV valve). I opened the hood today to check it and this is what I found after only 2 weeks of weekend driving with one round-trip on the highway ~376 miles total. 1996 Lexus LX450 with 221,591 mi. on the original engine. Does this mean I'm getting close to needing a rebuild?

It doesn’t look concerning to me.
It looks like it’s doing what it’s supposed to.

I was excited that these were going to be available when I saw the thread notification. @nhrabak is an example of why I want this.

Thanks for sharing your experience! It's helpful for others to see how much oil a catch can capture on these old rigs. We've started logging drain dates, mileage, and amounts on our rig too. Hopefully it will help others down the line.

Regarding your question...as @baldilocks mentioned, it depends on a few things. More oil in the catch can doesn’t always mean you need a rebuild. Some blow-by is normal with age and wear. Unless it’s excessive or you have other issues, I wouldn't be overly concerned. That said, having a catch can does help keep the intake and intake ports cleaner and can prevent serious buildup that could cause problems. We’ve noticed it collects more oil on long road trips, likely due to steady pressure and airflow, so your results are not unusual.

Sorry for the delay. I'm still working on the next batch and aiming to have them done by late next month. Unfortunately, I had to have surgery earlier this month (thankfully, nothing too serious) and am still recovering, so I haven’t been able to work on them as much as I had originally planned. I really appreciate everyone’s continued patience and interest!

New batch drop! Catch can kits will be back in stock tomorrow, Monday, May 26th, around lunchtime (EST).

Heads up - due to tariffs on the hoses and fittings, there might be a price increase on the next batch. Now’s a good time to grab one at the current price.

Also dropping: 1FZ head gasket keychains!

Laser cut in the USA from 304 stainless steel - same length as most 80 series keys. Because what better way to honor the 1FZ’s Achilles heel 🤣

Afternoon bump 🤘
I’ll be placing my order tomorrow morning from the west coast. Hold one for me because I know those east coast customers will have a 3 hour head start. The catch can will go on my virgin 1fz.

They usually take about a week to sell out so I think you'll be fine!
