Can you tell me what size the threads are on the barbed fittings ?

Thanks

this install was cake and it's doing it's job and grabbing oil at a prodigeous rate.

What's the most likely cause of high oil catchment - rings / valve seats or valve stem seals ?

I'm assuming rings ?
Glad it's working great for you, and thanks for the support! My guess would be the rings, but I'm sure all the items you listed contribute in some way. After 200k+, all those parts are going to have some wear and cause some blow-by. However, since a lot of folks end up doing the head/head gasket at some point, I'd guess valves and valve stem seals are less of a concern - most people take care of them when getting the head machined/rebuilt.

Another very common cause could be a gunked-up PCV valve that isn't functioning properly. They're often old and neglected, so a fresh grommet and PCV valve are cheap insurance for proper function. It's one of those forgotten items, which is why I started offering them as an add-on to complement the kit.

Thanks for the support, it’ll ship out tomorrow! The barb fittings are 1/4" NPT x 3/8" barb. Your kit will come with them already installed in the correct orientation, with thread sealant applied. If you plan to modify it a bit, they can still be unthreaded with a little force.

ONLY 8 KITS LEFT! Get yours before this batch is gone...

When I try to order just the catch can kit is shows as sold out, if I add the PVC it shows as available. I don’t need the added PVC grommet, can I order just the kit?

I apologize for the inconvenience, this is due to how I have to setup shipping (still trying to figure out the best way to do everything). I have to manually update the quantities, which I've just done. You should be able to place your order for just the catch can. I appreciate you letting me know👍

Officially SOLD OUT of our catch can kits! We still have a few head gasket keychains available.

Thank you all for your continued support! Stay tuned for the next batch and some new products we’ve been working on🤘

Mine showed up yesterday, installed last night and drove 25-30 miles today. My results when I got home. I don’t have any experience with catch cans, wondering what and how much blow by to expect. No very good lighting in the pick but the bottom of the bowl has a small amount in there. Rig is a ‘95 with 283k on original motor.

Looks great! One small tip: it looks like the bottom of the bracket is sitting on top of the lower loop clamp. It should actually sit behind the clamp, so the catch can bracket is sandwiched between the engine lifting bracket and the loop clamp.

You asked a great question and one we get pretty often. Unfortunately, there is no one-size-fits-all answer.

As for the "what": If you do a mix of highway and in-town driving, you’ll collect oil. If your driving is mainly short, in-town trips, you might see a bit of “milkshake” in the can. That’s just oil mixed with condensation from the crankcase. It happens more when the engine doesn't fully warm up and run long enough to evaporate built-up moisture, which is more common with short trips.

As for the "how much": That varies widely based on engine condition, outside temps, trip length, and so on. On our personal 80, we usually go 4000 to 5000 miles before needing to empty it out, and it's not even full at that point. We recommend checking it every 2 or 3 fuel stops at first, until you get a sense of what’s normal for your rig. You may also notice that on longer drives (2 hours or more), the catch can fills faster because of the consistent/sustained flow through the PCV system. The nice thing about this catch can is the clear sight glass; it only takes a few seconds to get a visual check on the level.

Hope this is helpful!

Hi - where can I sign up on a wait list? Sorting out P0401 and thought this would be a good addition, y'know, "while I'm in there" 🤣. Thanks.
Hey, thanks for the interest! We definitely think it’s a great addition to any 80. We don’t do a wait list or pre-sales, but you can sign up on our website to get an email alert when new kits are available. You can also keep an eye on this thread or follow us on Instagram for updates and a heads-up before the next batch drops.

The next batch is well underway, we’ve already placed orders for the hoses from Japan and hope to have them within 1–2 months. Once they arrive, it’ll take us a few weeks to assemble and package the next round of kits.🤘

Cheers. Bringing back the Japanese hoses (that's what she said) is a bonus for waiting. I'll sign up on your website and follow on IG.

No promises on them being made in Japan. Last batch we received about half Japanese made and half Chinese made. It’s just a lot easier and cheaper (TBD with the tariff situation) for us to order directly from Japan since they’ll sell us multiples at a time. Local dealers can only get a few at once and they’re way more expensive. Either way, they’re Toyota parts and seem to be good quality. We’ll keep you all updated on the progress of the next batch!
