Hi all,

Pretty annoyed today as I was doing my oil change. My mate decided to “help me” while i was gone from car by turning on engine for a few seconds while the oil was dripping to “help me get the oil down faster”. He even accelerated once, not like crazy or anything he told me. He might have done that 4 times for maybe 5/10 seconds then turn engine off. Anyway pretty upset, ended up finishing my oil change and drove the 80 series now. No knocking sound, loss of power, white smoke or anything.

Does this mean I can keep on with life without looking more into it? I imagine if he had done irreversible damages I would have known after driving 20km.

Thanks

You should be fine, best thing you could do is take an oil sample and send it out to blackstone for an oil analysis. You should swap the filter also and cut it open to see if you have any larger metal flakes.

haha thanks for the tips. This was done before I actually swapped the oil filter with a new one and I had driven the car before the oil change so hoping there was still some oil here and there.

Only difference Ive noticed is the oil pressure is going slightly above the 3rd mark (1st being Low and 4th being High) at highway speed when it used to sit slightly below it. But I assume this has to do with the fact that I just put 7.4 L of oil and the 80 losing oil I would have been under before? Just a guess

So yeah usually my oil dipstick always sits around the middle of the L and H, I keep adding oil when it drops. Now after the oil change it’s right above the F mark so that would increase the oil pressure slightly I assume. I’m sure it will drop under the F mark in 500km with oil consumption so no need to bother if it’s slightly high like this? Thanks for the help so far

no it will NOT increase oil pressure, thats a function of the pump not total oil capacity,
dont overfill your oil, it can lead to the crank whipping air into the oil and the air bubbles lowering your oils lubrication capabilities leading to bearing failure

id wager he's fuuckin with you....

Ah yes, would a new filter be installed slightly increase it then ?
Would you say this is overfilled when sitting right above F? I’ve only put 7.2 L and let it drain for 1h before that.

i doubt your oil pressure is any different than before, if anything it would be less.
If its over the full mark it is by definition 'over filled'....

New oil could increase the pressure slightly, especially if your old oil was maybe a bit overdue for a change.

Opinions may vary. Personally, I wouldn't lose any sleep over the touch of extra oil. The hashmarked portion of the dipstick represents around a liter. So you're what, less than a quarter of a liter over? Keep an eye on things, check the dipstick a couple of times, I would expect it to work itself out, but that's just me.

Thanks. Yes oil pressure slightly changed and is a bit higher than before, I keep an eye on these things, that would make sense then.

Yeah regarding the extra oil I think I’m just going to let that drip onto my driveway but without touching the oil sump plug…just by gravity from about any leak it wants to go through ..

check the level in the morning

also, is he still a mate?

Haha he’s convinced that turning engine for 2/3 secs is ok to push oil out and that parts are lubricated enough to handle that. Bush mechanics…so far so good after driving 50 kms but he won’t do it again.

Don't let him near anything you own again

I'm not the most patient man ever to live, but I'm perfectly content to let gravity do its thing. It's not like it takes that long.
