Hello,

I noticed my oil pressure is low while cruising at 65 mph since I rebuilt my head year ago. I have replaced the sensor, OEM, I used Toyota Filter and tested the continuity. The needle is on the middle when warming up but soon as its warmed up, its below the line. I have driven it like this to camp multiple times no issues. It just bothers me that it shows low. I use 10W-30 Mobil as my oil.

Anyone have experienced this?

That gauge position looks perfectly normal for an engine at normal operating temp.

Ditto.

If you really want/need confirmation find/borrow or have someone with mechanical pressure tester hook it up to the port for the oil pressure sender
to check for yourself. The threads for the oil pressure port are 1/8 BSPT (not NPT) if anyone asks.

To really know whats going on put a mechanical gauge into the port on the side of the engine as Kernal said
If the original sender unit on the engine you can remove it and spray some throttle body cleaner into the hole on the sender unit itself. 30 odd years of oil in there cakes up the internals a bit

Where are you getting 5psi? Do you have the only calibrated 80 series oil pressure gauge in existence? Mine doesn't have any numbers, just a few hash marks for me to draw relative comparison to the last time I drove it 😂. It's fine.

I'd be more concerned about that ABS light being on,... but that's me.

😆 I said 5psi because in my head I was comparing the gauge to my deflator gauge, if you match the needle between them it’ll be 5psi as it its almost zero. Haha

The ABS I removed the sensor because it’s annoying and doesn’t work well with 35s. It brakes better without it. Lol

I appreciate everyone with the reply. 🤝

I will say that low oil pressure at idle was in hindsight the advance warning of our failing Harmonic Balancer. But, it would momentarily drop to near zero and the recover when we came to a stop at a traffic light or stop sign.

This is a very normal thing for an 80. Toyota even calls out that at idle, sitting at the "zero" mark is normal.

Here's mine with an actual oil pressure gauge in parallel.

This is great info!

I got the same mark as yours at idle. Thanks for the info!

Btw how did you wire that digital oil pressure gauge?
