End of December I flew back to Alabama and my dad picked up my cruiser from Yuma and drove it home to Alabama for me. Ive been looking forward to getting it home for the next little bit of upgrades.

New front sway bar links and bushings going on.

This truck has spent it's whole life in Arizona or Alabama so it's completely rust free but this little guy as many of you know gets dripped on constantly by the air conditioner drain. The bolt itself was not seized but the part protruding through the nut was rusted up and wanted to break off. I put a dremel tool to it and slowly cut around the bolt. Cut a bit then turn the bolt 90 degrees and so on. Tedious but better than pulling the torsion bar to drill out the nut.

love it.
I've heard of guys having families/women in different states..
You had two cruiser projects in different states...

Main reason I was wanting to get this truck back home was to install this guy

It's the e-locked rear axle from my 99 I rolled over a few years ago. I wasn't quiet sure how much trouble it would be getting it all to work. I searched and read a few threads but they were inconclusive as to the wiring part of it. This white truck is an Oct. 99 build date so it technically a 2000 on the title. It has VSC (vehicle stability control) and ATRAC.

When I pulled this axle I unplugged the locker/axle harness from the body harness and left as much as possible attached.

Out with the old. This has dual junction brakes so one brake line going to each caliper. This is for the VSC/ATRAC Also the wheel speed sensors each have a short pigtail harness.

After close examination I concluded all that is needed is to install the hard dual junction brake line onto the earlier axle housing. The 2000 rear axle harness which only has two wires for each wheel speed sensor has a 4 wire connector. The e-locked rear axle harness has that same connector plus another bigger one for the locker

The only external difference in the two housings is this. The e-locked axle is missing this captive nut and alignment hole for the bracket that goes in the captive nut.

Simply drilled two holes and ran a tap through the one. The metal is thick enough a captive nut isn't even necessary.

The e-locker axle harness also has a tiny vent tube of some sort that vents the locker motor. My 2000 chassis harness appears to have all the wiring for the locker and even the small vent tube built into the factory harness. It had this tiny little cap on it to keep debris out since it wasn't being used.

Pleasantly surprised to see my chassis harness has the additional e-locker connector from the factory. I assume it had a cover on it at some point perhaps so I had to clean it a bit before plugging in the e-locker harness.

Wheel speed sensor closest. E-locker connector in back ground.

For the life of me I couldn't find where I stashed the e-locker computer so, a week or so ago I posted up a wanted add here and @Mauser came to the rescue. This ecu came in yesterday and I pulled the passenger kick panel today to find the empty connector waiting for me. The connector actually had this dummy plug in it with some kind of jumper in it. Anyway the ecu plugged right it in. Also I forgot to snap a picture but the blank for where the locker switch was had the connector for the locker switch as well. I popped that guy in and voila! ATRAC, VSC, and factory E-locker are all operational. The only thing missing at this point is the indicator in the cluster showing that the rear locker is engaged. I'll look into it but it may just need a bulb. Unfortunately I donated my cluster from my 99 to a buddy of mine so it's long gone.

Thos awesome find. My 98 lx didn't seem to have any of the wiring in place, I ended up wiring everything without the safety of factory ecu. Perhaps i just need to look harder

My LX has all the wiring in the cab, but the harness on the frame to hook up to the rear end isnt there. I couldn't figure out if a Land Cruiser harness would work and couldnt find a part number for the Canadian LX so I gave up and sold the ecu to @roma042987 I am going to use an aftermarket controller for mine.

Mine also has the the little plug with the jumper wire. If you run it without this plug the ABS light comes on.

Not exactly an exciting update but I want to keep this thread up to date on all my maintenance. This weekend I replaced the two leaky power steering reservoir hoses. I guess 20 years was enough for the rubber to deteriorate and them to start seeping. The bigger hose I got from toyota but the smaller hose was not available without buying both power steering hose tubes for the rack. Kind of odd so I just got some power steering hose form the parts store and cut to fit.

I actually ordered this hose from Japan along with some other diesel parts for my other cruisers.

Weather was so nice out I didn't even bother pulling it in the garage.

Old leaky hoses removed. They were pretty nasty and this was after I pressure washed the area a couple of days before.

Crappy picture I know but, this shows the whole hose.

The aftermarket return hose is a bit smaller O.D. so the original clamps wouldn't work. I dug up these older style Toyota clamps from another project.

I did reuse the little abrasion resistant sleeve and just zip tied it to the smaller hose.
